Include Baker Mayfield as another person surprised by the New York Giants’ decision to draft quarterback Daniel Jones earlier this year.
“Blows my mind,” the Cleveland Browns quarterback told GQ in a wide-ranging interview released Tuesday. “Some people overthink it. That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win. … Either you have a history of winning and being that guy for your team or you don’t.” (ESPN)
Fuck Baker Mayfield.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback who has done nothing in the NFL—besides managing to be a better QB than Kelly Holcomb and Trent Dilfer— decided to talk shit about the New York Giants drafting Daniel Jones and he should be thrown into a volcano for this nonsense.
It’s important to point out that Baker Mayfield’s reaction to the Giants drafting Daniel Jones was totally appropriate and there are far worse tweets about Daniel Jones on my own timeline.
This isn’t about whether or not Baker was correct.
YOU DON’T GET TO TALK ABOUT MY QUARTERBACK.
Only Giants fans are allowed to talk shit about Giants players. You don’t get to join in. If I make fun of my girlfriend, you better not join in and start making your own jokes. Don’t even talk to or about my girlfriend. You don’t know her like I do.
Keep Daniel Jones out of your mouth, BAKER.
It’s very clear that these comments were made in April immediately after the draft prior to DJ playing two preseason games and looking like the best quarterback in the NFL. Outside of two botched snaps—which is completely normal for a kid to mess up his 10th and 12th ever NFL snaps—Jones has been throwing receivers over and marching that Giants offense up and down the field with ease.
So needless to say, after Baker realized that Daniel Jones can actually ball out in this league, he instantly attempted to backtrack and blame the ‘media’ because that’s what you do when you say something stupid. It’s the media’s fault.
And he never actually claimed to have never said that. He simply said that his quote was ‘out of context’.
Here’s Backtrack Mayfield’s follow up:
“It seemed very disrespectful, and I can understand that,” Mayfield said. “But what people didn’t realize, the conversation entailed of me saying I was surprised I was drafted No. 1 overall, and then me going on a rant after that about QB evaluation and the frustration from the college recruiting process.
“And so it had nothing to do with Daniel specifically about the winning and stuff.”
Ah yes, you said the Giants drafting Daniel Jones blew your mind because you were shocked that went No. 1 overall last year? The dots have not in any way been connected here.
I would have all the respect in the world for Baker if he simply came out and said ‘I didn’t think he had a chance in the NFL and after watching him play twice, he looks fantastic and I was wrong. Odell and I will shut the fuck about the New York Giants going forward because we no longer have any clue what we’re talking about. Sorry for wasting all of your time. Please go back to watching that video of me chugging a beer at a baseball game. Wasn’t that so cool?’
Baker Mayfield is a little bitch. Keep my quarterback’s name out of your mouth.
