Sooo this is it. It would appear as though the New York Yankees plan on running it back as they re-sign their two aging free agents thus locking into the same exact roster that they had last season and if you recall, the Yankees did not win the World Series.
Brett Gardner could be a backup and the Yankees could still sign an outfielder but that doesn’t seem likely. The Yankees have Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clint Frazier as well as Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. It’s safe to say that bringing back Gardner solidifies the outfield as currently constructed.
CC Sabathia had the perfect farewell last season hitting a Tama Bay Devil Ray batter and being ejected from his final start. What a beautiful send off. Now the 38-year old is back and he’s not signing up to come out of the bullpen. He is guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation.
In 29 starts last season, CC pitched fewer than 6 innings 18 times. I imagine that number gets even lower this upcoming season which means whenever he starts, the entire bullpen is coming out to finish what he started.
It’s also being heavily reported that the Yankees are all in on re-signing JA Happ so the rotation would be Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, JA Happ, CC Sabathia and Sonny Gray.
What are we doing here?
Yes, the Yankees won 100 games but do we really think bringing the identical roster back WITHOUT Didi Gregorius is somehow magically going to leapfrog the Boston Red Sox?
I swear to god if Luis Cessa or Domingo German are in the starting rotation next season then Brian Cashman is embezzling all of that international pool money and doesn’t actually give a fuck about wins and losses anymore.
I better refresh my phone today and see that Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are on this team or else we’re about to watch another Boston Red Sox parade.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think the Yankees should probably like, sign a superstar. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
