A white guy wrote an article about how much he misses when old white men were in charge. The New York Times on their desperate quest to seem unbiased just gave another white supremacist an opportunity to tell his side of the story. Thank you, NYT. Where would we be as a society if people who hated Jews didn’t get a chance to tell us why?
Yes, I just read a bajillion word op-ed about the ‘good ol days’ and I don’t have a New York Times subscription. I get 5 free articles a month and I’ve wasted one for Mein Kampf Lite.
Here is a cute little except from this art:
I think you can…describe Bush nostalgia as a longing for something America used to have and doesn’t really any more — a ruling class that was widely (not universally, but more widely than today) deemed legitimate, and that inspired various kinds of trust (intergenerational, institutional) conspicuously absent in our society today.
Put simply, Americans miss Bush because we miss the WASPs — because we feel, at some level, that their more meritocratic and diverse and secular successors rule us neither as wisely nor as well.
Before I explain the biggest problem with that garbage, I want to point out how much I love that Ross Douthat titles the piece ‘Why We Miss The WASPs’ as if to veil the fact that he’s exclusively writing about his own specific views but by saying ‘we’ he can get away with being the voice for the voiceless. What a damn hero.
How itty bitty are your testicles that you have to hide behind your views and claim that it’s a wildly popular opinion. Ross Douthat is a WASP. No shit he wishes they were still on top of the pyramid.
America Needs More Leaders Who Suffer From Depression and Watch The Big Lebowski Every Day, my new column for the New York Times coming soon.
Ross Douthat claims that when WASPs were the ruling class, America was a better nation and that they were this selfless group that cared about the little guy. I feel like people don’t realize how recently the Civil Rights Movement was. Ah man, I miss when we used to be able to just lynch folks for being in the ‘wrong neighborhood’.
The glory days.
If you believe a group is deserving of power because they were born white, you might be a racist.
I think I just ripped a Jeff Foxworthy joke. Man, I’ve fallen off. Catch me wearing a ripped denim vest and a trucker hat when I sell completely out and turn into Lester The Cable Guy.
But here is the biggest problem with his claims about WASPs being out of power: they aren’t.
This all goes hand in hand with Make America Great Again and every white person that is under the impression that they are losing control of the country. It’s why white supremacy has been more acceptable these days. It’s why the Charlottesville rally was even a thing.
Do I live in a different universe? Am I in the upside down? Perhaps Ross Douthat was too busy missing WASPs that he didn’t get a chance to witness the entire Brett Kavanaugh thing. ‘You people’ are still very much in charge and by any means necessary.
Racist white people see ONE Muslim woman get elected into Congress and they’re like ‘it’s over. We are the minorities now. We’re going to be slaves by the end of the year. *kisses wife goodbye* you now belong to the brown people’.
I was trying to make important points so I wanted to keep it pretty classy but I’ll end here: Fuck Ross Douthat.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think the New York Times should probably chill with handing Nazis the pen. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
