Stop Letting Injured Players Onto the Field

Tua Tagovailoa

We are all aware of how important the quarterback position is in the NFL yet teams have spent the last couple of weeks putting their QB1s directly into harm’s way and potentially throwing their entire seasons and futures away for September football games.

Last week, Jameis Winston was reported to have broken bones in his back prior to kick-off. He went on to throw for 236 yards with 3 interceptions and only 3 yards per attempt. The Saints lost of course because, ya know, their quarterback had a fucking broken back.

Last week, Justin Herbert broke rib cartilage. You would think the Chargers would rest their star QB knowing he is going to be a Top 3 quarterback for the next decade but nope, Herbert played on Sunday and looked average completing only 55% of his passes and having his lowest QB rating of the year. Oh, and Los Angeles lost.

Here is Tua Tagovailoa clearly concussed after getting crushed in the 2nd quarter of the Bills Dolphins game on Sunday:

Tua would return to the game after halftime and help secure the victory over Buffalo. Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel, said Tua actually suffered a back injury and his head was fine despite all of us seeing his brain leaking out of his ears with stars spinning around his cranium.

Let’s go with that story for a second and say Tua injured his back, he still should not have come back into that game.

We’re only 3 weeks into the season and teams are attempting to murder their franchise cornerstones with no regard for their players’ long-term wellbeing.

How many times have we seen careers destroyed by teams allowing them to play through injuries? Robert Griffin III was one of the best college quarterbacks of all time and Washington let him play through vicious knee injuries and now he’s a weirdo who does play-by-play and throws sexual innuendos into every broadcast for no reason.

These guys play 17 games now. There is absolutely no need to risk it all in Week 3. It’s literally the reason why you have backups on the roster. Andy Dalton has been to the playoffs. He should be suiting up for the Saints instead of Jameis playing through a broken back.

For a league that pretends to care about player safety, they sure are letting a lot of players go out there and ruin their lives to keep these head coaches employed. You never need to die for your bosses. Use all your sick days. No one cares about your perfect attendance. Spend time with your family, man. Work isn’t life.
