Drew Brees Hasn’t Been in the News in Awhile So Drew Brees Decided to Change That

drew brees

I had finally reached a point where Drew Brees’s existence was erased from my memory. Easily one of the most overrated athletes in the history of history who almost made it his entire career without taking his mask off and revealing he’s a conservative loser who hates what Colin Kaepernick did because someone in his family was a troop or some dumb irrelevant shit—finally retired.

I’m told that Brees spent last season working for NBC Sports but it’s possible his inclusion into that broadcast escaped my mind because Brees said nothing of importance and his commentary was mid.

With the New Orleans Saints totally moving on from Brees and Tom Brady recently signing a massive deal to work for Fox when he finally gets his back broken on the 50-yard line like Bane did to Batman, Drew decided to jump off the top rope to remind people he still exists.

“Despite speculation from media about my future”, says the man who I can confidently say I saw zero reports speculating Brees’s future nor did I see anyone casually wondering what his plans were.

Drew Brees isn’t playing football again, at least not at the NFL level. He was barely playing at an NFL level when he was in the NFL. Yet ESPN still saw this desperate tweet and dedicated segments to exploring the idea of his return.

I’d love a world where players could retire and chill with their millions of dollars instead of immediately transitioning to boring analysts who are uncomfortable on camera and never provide an interesting perspective or provocative takes.

Re-reading that last paragraph, I can imagine someone thinking I am jealous or some shit. I run a sports site and you’d think I’d want that primetime analyst spot for a big network but there is nothing I want less than to have a job where I can’t randomly say ‘fuck’ for no reason at all or a job where I have to spend long periods of time with Tony Dungy.

Hopefully, this is the final time I ever have to write about Drew Brees.

Where does Drew Brees rank among all-time greats?

Brees has a lot of throwing records and if that’s important to you then he’s probably the third-best quarterback all-time behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. He has 0 MVPs and at no point in his career did I ever believe he was anywhere near as good as those two players.

We’re also about a decade away from every passing record being toppled by guys who aren’t even that great. Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford will have the most yards and does anyone believe they were the best in the NFL? Once Brees’s records get leaped, we might finally be able to look back at his career correctly.

Drew Brees was really good for awhile. He should be NOWHERE the greatest of all time conversation. Brett Favre is robbing an entire state and I will always say he’s astronomically better than Drew Brees.
