Nick Wright Just Had a Career-Defining Moment

Nick Wright just had an Aaron Rodgers rant that will live on forever.

These days, it feels like sports media ‘stars’ are built by ‘telling it like it really is’ leading to being hated by all sports fans so the clips of your most exaggerated takes and rants get thousands of quote retweets from scrolling sickos like myself dunking on them or praying they are removed from their jobs immediately.

Fox Sports’s Nick Wright is one of the most hated guys in the game.

Nick Wright is a former Houston radio host who in 2016 was given the keys to a new Fox Sports 1 morning sports show, First Things First, with a jacked Jenna Wolfe as the host and former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter—who at least once a week would arrive in a bad mood trying to derail the show with his bullshit.

I’ll never forget Cris Carter lying about knowing where Kawhi Leonard would sign in the summer of 2019 where literally no one knew except Kawhi’s uncle. Why are these guys so determined to make themselves the center of every story?

Nick Wright quickly established himself as the guy who ‘told it like it really is’ by taking every single opportunity he had to praise LeBron James as the GOAT. Sure, the dick riding was craaaazzy but in hindsight, calling LeBron the best ever shouldn’t really have bothered people as much as it did but perhaps it’s the way he delivers messages that rubs people the wrong way.

He has strong annoying little brother energy.

He whines like he’s begging his mom to force his older brother to let him hang out. He intentionally trolls Bills fans or Nuggets fans but it feels obvious and more playful than cynical.

But I understand I’d feel differently if the Giants or Knicks were his trolling targets. It’s on sight if I ever end up in the same room as Becky Hammon and all she said was Jalen Brunson might not be good enough to lead a championship team and I don’t even disagree with her. Just, ya know, don’t say that shit so loud on TV.

Personally, I like Nick Wright. I feel like he cares about his job and prides himself in having thoughtful takes instead of guys like Stephen A. Smith who seems to care more about creating ‘moments’ and being entertaining than actually watching games and having something interesting to say about them.

Sports television hosts are like, 90% clout-chasing, ratings-obsessed, jaded dickheads who’ve realized they get more attention from lazily riling up fanbases than actually being creative and interesting.

I don’t watch First Things First because I don’t want to hear his co-hosts opinions and I haven’t an idea what time this show actually airs but if you listen to Nick Wright on podcasts with a Bomani Jones or even Colin Cowherd where they can talk freely for an hour instead of quick 7 minute TV blocks, you can tell Nick cares about his craft.

As far as this actual viral clip goes, I don’t want to get into the details of Aaron Rodgers. We all understand how annoying that man is but this is the type of rant that makes someone a legend.

You know a clip hit when people who hate Nick Wright are putting their personal feelings aside to praise him. People across the aisle have come together for one main cause: fuck Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers tore his achilles as soon as the season started and then lied about his ability to come back from a torn Achilles in 3 months because he knows more than doctors and scientists.

You cannot tear your achilles and play NFL football 3 months later. Jesus Christ himself would have a tough time with the 3-step drop. The 40-year-old full of horse dewormer was NEVER going to play this season but the world revolves around him so he had to tell us every week about his return.

Stephen A. Smith had his Lamar Odom crack moment. Colin Cowherd had his quarterbacks wearing their hats backward moment and now Nick Wright has his Aaron Rodgers is disingenuous moment.

I will continue not watching this show but good for him. Cannot wait to see clips over the next couple of years of Nick Wright desperately trying to recreate this.
