The Tampa Bay Rays Would Like You To Know They Are Homophobic

tampa bay rays

It’s pride month which means brands are randomly adding rainbows to all their content to appear as allies to the LGBTQ+ community. The Tampa Bay Rays are wearing cute little gay pride patches on their jerseys to celebrate this month.

Well, everyone on the Rays are wearing these patches except for Jason Adam, Jalen Beeks, Brooks Raley, Jeffrey Springs and Ryan Thompson who claim it is against their faith or some shit.

Here’s what Jason Adam said about their wonderful decision:

“So it’s a hard decision. Because ultimately we all said what we want is them to know that all are welcome and loved here. But when we put it on our bodies, I think a lot of guys decided that it’s just a lifestyle that maybe — not that they look down on anybody or think differently — it’s just that maybe we don’t want to encourage it if we believe in Jesus, who’s encouraged us to live a lifestyle that would abstain from that behavior, just like [Jesus] encourages me as a heterosexual male to abstain from sex outside of the confines of marriage. It’s no different.”

There are so many dumb words in that statement. They want gay people to feel welcome but won’t wear a supportive patch on their arms because of Jesus(?). I haven’t opened the bible in a while but I don’t remember Jesus ever turning someone away because they’re a lesbian. But my memory could be foggy.

He also added that Jesus was against heterosexual sex outside of marriage. Super lame way to live your life but okay if that’s your thing, sure. Save yourself so you can disappoint your unhappy wives. That’s none of my business.

But uh, this is what homophobia literally is. The idea that gay people are just out here banging each other raw in the streets nonstop. Does Jason Adam know gay people can also wait for marriage before they sleep together? A bigot’s refusal to embrace the gay community never actually lines up with their rigid self-righteous code of morality and almost always comes down to being a homophobic asshole.

Another example of straight white conservative dudes standing up for what they believe in: hating everyone who isn’t a straight white conservative dude. True bravery. What a legacy they are leaving behind. They stood up against the little guy. Heroes.

The Tampa Bay Rays are coming off losing a series to the Chicago White Sox who are a below .500 team and they are about to start a nine-game stretch against the Cardinals, Twins and Yankees—all first-place teams. It’d be a reaaaaal shame if the Devil Rays got slapped up this week and their season spiraled out of control. Ugh, I would just hate for that to happen to these courageous freedom fighters.
