Buster Posey is Right About Free Agents Not Wanting To Come To San Francisco Because of Crime and Drugs

The San Francisco Giants are having a hard time locking up big free agents and former All-Star catcher, Buster Posey, know the reason why: crime and drugs, of course.

Moving sucks. Top 5 worst things on the planet. Like, right above seeing your ex with someone far more successful and better looking than you. And when you’re moving, you have to take into consideration the neighborhood you’re moving into. former Giants catcher, Buster Posey, understands this and thinks San Francisco is too crime-ridden for free agents to move there.

Here’s what Buster Posey said about Shohei Ohtani and other free agents who don’t want to come to the Giants:

“Something I think is noteworthy, something that unfortunately keeps popping up from players and even the players’ wives is there’s a bit of an uneasiness with the city itself, as far as the state of the city, with crime, with drugs. “Whether that’s all completely fair or not, perception is reality. It’s a frustrating cycle, I think, and not just with baseball. Baseball is secondary to life and the important things in life. But as far as a free-agent pursuit goes, I have seen that it does affect things.”

Buster Posey is 1000% correct here. San Francisco has a crime problem.

I’m sure Shohei Ohtani didn’t sign with the Giants because of all the drugs and crime in the city. You can’t bring $700 million to a city like San Fran.

One of the biggest drug addicts of the 21st century laid his head in San Francisco. Barry Bonds is the greatest baseball player of all time and was full of drugs every day when he played for the Giants.

I could see a free agent not wanting to work at a place where the sidewalk is littered with empty syringes from Barry Bonds stopping by for a quick batting practice.

Oh god, and the crime problem. Here is a woman getting attacked at a local park:

That’s Giants Team President, Larry Baer, attacking his wife.

Buster Posey is absolutely right. San Francisco has too much crime and drugs. Guys don’t want to play for a team full of all this bullshit.

Did Shohei Ohtani not sign with San Fran because of this?

Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers because they gave him $700 million. I will live on a Somalian pirate ship for a decade if it means I get $700 million at the end. I’ll bust my ass too. I’m the captain now.

Ohtani, being from another country, probably doesn’t have many opinions on the San Francisco crime rate.

Also worth noting the San Fran crime rate is 636 per 100,000 residents while Los Angeles is 732 per 100,000. Los Angeles has way more crime.

The difference is, people don’t talk about the LA crime rate as often because San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in America and the fraction of people who can afford to live there have no other real problems in their lives—so all they do is whine about the existence of homeless people instead of questioning the wealth gap or the exploding cost of living in their area that directly caused the homeless crisis.

San Fran natives cry to anyone who will listen. People with money believe people without money should either be serving them or completely away from their line of sight.

No (smart) free agent is turning money down to play in San Francisco because there’s too much crime.

It shouldn’t even be on their mind.

Buster Posey works for the Giants front office now. turning this into a talking point and making a big deal of this only works to manifest this situation he created in his head. No one was thinking about crime before but now that Buster mentions it, players might consider it.

Do you know the real reason why the Giants can’t get stars? Because Buster Posey retired.

The team went 81-81 last year.

They have a brand new GM who hasn’t established himself yet and there’s no real plan in place to get free agents excited. 33-year-old Mike Yastrzemski is about to be their no. 3 hitter next season. Man struck out 99 times to only 77 hits last year. He’s the best player on the team with just 15 homers and a .233 batting average.

Why in the fuck would Ohtani want to play with MIKE YASTRZEMSKI??

You’re right, Buster. The Giants need to clean up their crime and drug problem. Until then, enjoy another .500 season.
