The Play That Got Jason Garrett Fired

It’s finally over. The Giants have fired the most mediocre man on Earth. Jason Garrett is no longer the offensive coordinator in New York. Let’s quickly look at how the Giants offense has performed since Garrett took over in 2020:

17.2 points per game (30th in the NFL)
5.1 yards per play (28th in the NFL)
308.5 yards per game (31st in the NFL)
37% 3rd down conversions (31st in the NFL)

The only person on Earth benefitting from Jason Garrett’s offense is the Giants punter. This team has scored 30 points ONCE in Garrett’s 26 games as the OC. There is nothing positive to take away from his tenure.

But there was a play in the Giants disgusting loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football that perfectly depicted Garrett’s terrible offense.

3 wide receivers awkwardly run directly into each other and kind of just hang out in the middle of the field holding hands while Jones gets devoured by the pass rush because all of his targets are on top of each other.

It was 3rd and 2. The Giants needed 2 yards. 3 receivers looking at one another with no thought of even catching a football. The fuck happens at Giants practice during the week? Thankfully, Jason Garrett will no longer be at those practices.

Daniel Jones probably sucks. He looks like a very good backup quarterback. It’s unfortunate that we’ll never see what he could’ve been in the NFL because the Giants front office and coaching staff have dedicated the last 3 years to ruining Jones’s career and any hope of him succeeding.

I still cannot believe that 3rd down play. Were the receivers attempting to pick the other ones open? The Bucs typically play zone defense. Picks work on man coverage. In a zone, the defenders can just sit back and watch those 3 receivers run into each other. You’d think the offensive coordinator would understand that.
