Known Fat Guy, Kelvin Benjamin, Cut From New York Giants Because He Was Too Fat

Kelvin Benjamin’s NFL comeback has been cut short today as the New York Giants are releasing the wide receiver turned tight end following an altercation with the coaching staff. The altercation was the result of Kelvin Benjamin not making the required weight.

Here’s Kelvin Benjamin’s interpretation of his time in New York:

“I don’t want to bash anyone, but I just felt like Joe has had it out to get me since I walked into that team building,” Benjamin said. “It never felt right. The guy never even had a conversation with me until the day they signed me.”

Benjamin weighed 265 pounds at the end of minicamp in June and was told by Giants staff that he needed to get down to 251 pounds for training camp. Instead, he showed up weighing 268 after putting on some muscle, Benjamin said.

But Benjamin passed the Giants’ conditioning test Tuesday, he said. The test for a tight end consists of the player completing 20 50-yard dashes in under seven seconds. Benjamin said he completed those tests and didn’t hear anything about the Giants being unhappy with his weight.

So he ran out for practice on Wednesday, and Judge pulled him aside. They talked for a little bit and waited for Gettleman to come over.

Judge “was like: ‘We’re gonna fine you for being 17 pounds overweight.’ I was like: ‘How are you going to do that?’” Benjamin said. “I said: ‘So you want me to be a smaller tight end than when I played wide receiver.’ He had nothing to say. He quieted down.”

Amazing. Have to defend my ball coach, Joe Judge here. Kelvin Benjamin is known for being overweight. He also came onto the team as like, the 4th string tight end having never played the position before.

Judge was simply testing Benjamin’s discipline and commitment to the team. If you truly want to make the final roster then you need to weigh 251 pounds. This motherfucker Kelvin walked into training camp at 268 pounds and couldn’t wrap his mind around why the coach would be frustrated.

To quickly defend Fat Benjamin, fuck Dave Gettleman. There was absolutely zero reason to bring him in outside of the fact that Gettleman drafted him in Carolina and wanted to give him another shot despite the fact that there was no roster spot available for him.

Clearly, Joe Judge didn’t want this man in the facility stealing treats and shit. Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph are their tight ends. It doesn’t make sense to have a former wide receiver as your third string tight end when that third string tight end would only see the field on goal line situations exclusively to block.

Fire Dave Gettleman. Please stop feeding Kelvin Benjamin.
