Week 1, 49-21 dub over Ohio, the Huskers collecting 523 total offensive yards, touchdowns in each quarter, no turnovers, Annihilation. Senior QB from UNLV, Anthony Colandrea, 275 pass yards and 4 touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing)—including a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive on the first possession, overcoming his own fumble on a messy handoff—and a 7-play, 92-yard touchdown drive in the next quarter.

85,577 fans in attendance, knocking like Chuck Inglish in the right speakers.

I’ve witnessed too many meaningless Nebraska seasons ended pre-Halloween to sit too comfy after a Week 1 win.

And I don’t love what head coach Matt Rhule said after the game.

“I expected to have a pretty good game but I didn’t expect to find the end zone three times,” Rule said. “Surprised myself; not going to lie.”

What did this team look like in practice for you to be surprised you scored 3 touchdowns against a team 9 months removed from a humiliating coach dismissal—former coach Brian Smith fired for misconduct—caught living at the university inn to be closer to the student he was sleeping with.

Matt Rhule could not believe they beat a team in the midst of a PR crisis. This is the coach who is supposed to motivate these men. I’m surrounded by hugging Brian Dabolls.

But on to the next challenger….

Bowling Green’s cake. Lost 13-20, at home, against  FCS program Tarleton State. This is the first I’m hearing of Tarleton State. They beat Bowling Green.

Cake.

Bowling Green surrendered 258 rushing yards to Tarleton fucking State.

Perfect.

Nebraska rushed for 248 rushing yards against Ohio,  Jamal Rule rushing for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns (he had a receiving touchdown too) on 15 carries in his Cornhuskers debut.

I expect Jamal Rule to rush for no less than 300 yards. Bowling Green begging for more Tartleton State by halftime.

Anthony Colandrea is about as good as I prepare myself for the Nebraska QB1 to be. He looked clunky at times, completing only 56% of his passes—Colandrea may accidentally find himself in a shootout with Bowling Green QB Jay Kastantin, the transfer from the prestigious Assumption College.

Shout out Tartleton State and Assumption. Go get you a degree, yo. They’re sending the rest of us to war soon. Save yourself.

I’ll see y’all 7pm tomorrow on Fox Sports (this illegal stream I have).
