Swept by the Yankees at Fenway, and a loss to the Orioles, Boston snapped their 4-game losing streak this afternoon with a 17-1 beatdown of the Baltimore Orioles.

Andruw Monasterio smashed a grand slam, Ace Garrett Crochet struck out 7 over 6 shutout innings, Cale Durbin and Wilson Contreras hit some bombs, a seed planted in fertile soil.
Everyone’s fired.
The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN.
While the Red Sox won today, they are 10-17 and in last in the American League East. Massive change is coming in Boston.

After 8 years and a championship, the Boston Red Sox are relieving Alex Cora of his managerial duties. Good luck to Alex, who now must send his resume to AI answering machines, scraping his data and shredding the remains.
What went wrong for Alex Cora?
Despite dominating Baltimore on Saturday, Boston is dead last in the division—10-17 record, one of the worst in baseball.
The Red Sox are essentially in their 6th year of a rebuild following the Mookie Betts trade to the Dodgers in 2020.
Things were looking up for Boston. They snuck into the postseason with 89 wins last season, losing to the Yankees in the Wild Card round but understanding the holes in their roster.
Team president Craig Breslow went out there and let Alex Bregman join the Chicago Cubs in free agency, electing to focus on “run prevention”, a brilliant new concept no one besides Breslow’s ever considered.
The first guy to be like, “What if we don’t let the other team score”.
Genius IQ shit.
So he acquired Ranger Suarez and Sonny Gray.
Sonny Gray is already on the 15-day IL and Suarez’s given up 4 runs in 3 of his last 5 starts. 4 out of the Red Sox 5 starting pitchers have ERA’s greater than 4. Not a single run is being prevented.
With the run prevention scheme out of gas one month into the year, guess the pressure’s on the batting order and the shoulders of 21-year old Roman Anthony—who’s hitting .225 with just one homer and an outfield arm so weak, the Golden Girls could hit inside the park homers if they just bloop a ball into left field.
The heart of the order, Trevor Story, Caleb Durbin and Jarren Duran, all hitting below .200.
Last season, Craig Breslow brought in Alex Bregman last minute, didn’t communicate a plan to Rafael Devers and ended up trading their best hitter to the Giants for nothing. And while Bregman turned out to be a clubhouse leader, carrying them to a playoff appearance, Brewslow allowed that leader to just leave the building and sign elsewhere.
Red Sox ownership tightened up the budget, tasked Craig Breslow with building a discount contender and Alex Cora wasn’t capable of turning mud into gold.
What’s next for Alex Cora?
The Phillies and Mets should be racing each other to sign Alex Cora before the floor falls out from beneath them, both teams struggling to win games despite their talented rosters and high expectations.
Alex may not be the guy who develops young talent but he’s proven he can win with stars.
Let’s see what Cora can do for ball clubs interested in spending money to win games instead of whatever the Red Sox ownership is doing.
They’re really about to let the fucking MARLINS win the NL East.
Nah, send Alex Cora to make things interesting around here.
