It’d Be Cool To See LeBron and Bronny Play Together

bronny james

On Monday night, Bronny James was hospitalized after suffering cardiac arrest during a practice with the USC Trojans basketball team.

You wouldn’t have known it from LeBron James’s Twitter account though as he posted memes through it.

Wow, he’s just like me. Posting through trauma.

It appears Bronny is recovering fine. I remember when the Atlanta Hawks center, Jason Collier randomly died from cardiac arrest when he was only 28 years old.

Being a human sucks.

Your heart can decide to stop working one day and there’s nothing you can do about it. Doesn’t matter what type of physical shape you’re in or anything.

Your heart can attack you whenever it feels like it. Sick.

But Bronny James almost losing his life at 18 years old really made me take a step back and think about the idea of him and his father playing in the NBA together.

People have brought up the idea that LeBron James isn’t retiring yet because he’s waiting for the opportunity for his son to become eligible for the NBA so they can play together.

There are even rumors saying whichever team decides to draft Bronny has a great chance of signing LeBron too.

That story always felt like a lie LeBron floated out there to encourage organizations to draft his son who might not be a good enough basketball player to be drafted off the strengths of his own talents but, ya know, nepotism.

Admittedly, I never once took the time to consider the idea of LeBron playing with his son.

I reckon it always felt so far down the road. I was in elementary school when LeBron was drafted by the Cavaliers. 20 years later and this maniac was in the Western Conference Finals 4 weeks ago.

Somehow, we are possibly one year removed from him actually being on the same team as his son.

That’s absurd.

I’ll also admit I don’t have a real relationship with the myth of LeBron. He didn’t sign with the Knicks in 2010 and I’ve been indifferent about him ever since. We hold grudges over here. Team Carmelo.

Bu now Bronny James’s basketball future could be in jeopardy. There is no way they are allowing that kid onto a court any time soon. He might even miss his entire freshman year and this massive health scare makes him even less likely to be drafted.

The dream of LeBron and Bronny playing together may have ended this week. That fucking sucks.

I’m sure the James family is more focused on making sure Bronny can recover and live a normal life. No one in that hospital is deciding where they’ll be playing basketball in 2024.

But at some point, that thought is going to creep up in someone’s mind and I hope it doesn’t lead to anyone rushing Bronny back too soon.

Although, you’d first have to get past how unbelievably annoying all sports programming would be if Lebron and Bronny really were teammates—like just imagine how many people would zag and try to hate on whatever team they play on because the sole mention of that team would give them a spike in viewers while the LeBron dickriders try to petition to get LeBron and Bronny’s faces printed on money.

If you can allow yourself to live in a moment without being distracted by social media nonsense and lazy NBA broadcasts then you could potentially witness a beautiful thing between a father and his son.

Hopefully, Bronny recovers and we make it to that day. I’ve been waiting for this moment since elementary school, apparently.

Random stray thoughts:

  • Yes, there are a lot of young athletes suddenly collapsing from heart problems. But I promise you, no one wants to hear about your thoughts on the vaccine. That debate is 3 years old and we never should’ve listened to you dweebs to begin with.
  • Just a bunch of adult babies afraid of a needle, making up ghost stories to make themselves feel better about an irrational fear they never grew out of.
  • Ya know, we don’t have to engage with conspiracy theory dorks, right? We used to make fun of these low-IQ weirdos and now we’re stuck using an app where they all paid $8 to that autistic scammer so they can always be the first comments under real stories but don’t let their new visibility stop you from mocking them.
  • Quick shout out to Rick Brunson being on the sidelines coaching his son, Jalen every night. Again, we don’t talk about it enough but that’s cool as hell, man.
