Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown Are Holding Marcus Smart Back

On Monday night, the Boston Celtics entered the 4th quarter against the Chicago Bulls with 103 points on the board and up 14 points. They managed to lose that 128-114 at home thanks to a massive 4th quarter meltdown and Marcus Smart rushed to the podium after the game to shed light on what is wrong with the Celtics.

“I would just like to play basketball.”
“Every team knows we are trying to go to Jayson and Jaylen (Brown), and every team is programmed and studies to stop Jayson and Jaylen,” he said. “I think everybody’s scouting report is to make those guys try to pass the ball. They’re still learning and we’re proud of the progress they are making but they are going to have to make another step and find ways to not only create for themselves but create for others on this team. …
“It’s something that we’ve been asking for them to do and they’re learning. We just got to continue to help those guys do that and to help our team.”

The Boston Celtics are 2-5 so far this season and according to one particular player on the roster, the reason they stink is because Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are preventing Marcus Smart from playing basketball.

It’s tough to argue his point. GM Brad Stevens stole the job from Danny Ainge and proceeded to put together a group of guys whose sole job is to watch Brown and Tatum score. And why would those two guys pass the ball when their options are Al Eeyore Horford and the ghost of Josh Richardson? Of course they’d rather put up 40 each.

Now, you can make the argument that Marcus Smart probably shouldn’t complain about teammates not passing the ball after a game in which he played 33 minutes a racked up a grand total of zero assists himself.

Congrats to Brad Stevens for failing up. Congrats to Marcus Smart for sinking the Celtics ship and lighting the locker room on fire after two weeks of basketball.

Remember when Kyrie talked down to this team because he won a championship and blah blah only for the team to turn against him? Surely, they’ll all love Marcus Smart talking down to them with his hands completely ringless and being like, the least talented player on the roster. BUT, maybe he only looks like he’s talentless because Brown and Tatum won’t pass to him. Chicken or the egg.
