The Giants almost secured the biggest upset of the season on Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs before losing in the final minute by a field goal. But in that loss came some awkward clock management that led to Kansas City being able to run the clock down to a minute before kicking their field goal and giving the ball back to the Giants with zero timeouts.
Here’s Joe Judge’s explanation for this misstep:
“The headsets were going out,” Judge said. “This has been happening in every game so far. We deal with the league and they keep telling us about different software updates or whatever it is.”
Judge said the Giants had to call those two timeouts because the headsets weren’t “getting reception” when they were trying to make substitutions.
“That’s the issue right there,” Judge said. “We are trying to make the right call … We have to make sure the hardware is working. So whatever the issue with that is, the people involved better get it fixed fast.”
Unfortunately, we have no choice but to believe Judge only because he doesn’t have a longstanding history of being a liar or a weirdo. Not saying it’s impossible that he is lying in order to cover up his terrible clock management and maintain his job that he is wildly unqualified for as we’re actively seeing what happens when you hire Nick Saban’s intern to run your entire football team—but let’s just take this problem at face value.
This is what happens when your organization refuses to update. Giants owner, John Mara, has yet to hire people who live in 2021 and instead chooses to exclusively hire guys he can play 18 holes with at the most discreet country clubs.
And with that mentality, you get a room full of antiquated assholes on both the Giants sideline as well as the front office, who have no idea how to update the software for the fucking headsets after WEEKS of being able to use the headsets.
The Giants were randomly burning timeouts all game long because their headsets don’t work. This is infuriating. Do you think the Baltimore Ravens have this problem? The Green Bay Packers? The Los Angeles Rams? All of these organizations that consistently make the playoffs year after year seem to know how to communicate on the sidelines and the Giants can’t even figure that out.
Fire everyone. Cut everyone. Burn the stadium to the ground.
