Welcome to Ceiling/Floor where I dissect trades, signings, firings and hirings in order to determine the best case and worst case scenarios.

The Tennesee Titans have signed DeAndre Hopkins to a 2-year deal worth around $25 million with a bunch of stat incentives included.

Ceiling

Last season, the Titans ranked 30th in passing offense right above the Falcons and Bear—two teams that refused to throw the ball and used their QBs as battering rims instead of, ya know, guys who actually throw downfield.

Robert Woods led the receivers with 53 catches for 527 yards and 2 touchdowns. Those are great stats for like, the 3rd best receiver on your team but those are numbers your number one guy should have by the bye week.

Regardless, Woods is a Houston Texan now.

Their 2nd best receiver was Austin Hooper.

He’s a Raider now.

Their 3rd best receiver was Derrick Henry who is a running back not known for being that great in the passing game.

Tennesee was about a month away from starting the 2023 NFL season with computer-generated receivers until they brought in DeAndre Hopkins to save the day.

Sure, Hopkins is on the wrong side of 30 but as he gets older, the Titans can utilize him more in the slot for short yardage where he can use his speed more tactically instead of trying to line up outside and outrun cornerbacks a decade younger than him.

The AFC South is a winnable division. There are two rookie quarterbacks you can hit a lick on.

Plus, it’s easier to sell tickets when Derrick Henry and DeAndre Hopkins star in all of your team commercials.

The Titans could sneak into the AFC Wildcard and we’ve already seen under head coach Mike Vrabrel, they are one of the few times capable of giving the Kansas City Chiefs a real challenge.

DeAndre Hopkins hasn’t been an elite All-Pro wide receiver since 2020.

In 2021, Hopkins suffered from a hamstring injury because tearing his knee to shreds and missing the remainder of the season and the following year he had to sit for 6 games after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Rarely do we see superstars drop off for two seasons with injuries and HGH suspensions and then casually return back to their previous greatness and I certainly wouldn’t expect teaming up with Ryan fucking Tannehill to unlock the old D-Hop.

Let’s have a quick team-building discussion.

Prior to last season, the Tennesee Titans traded 25-year-old All-Pro wide receiver, AJ Brown, to the Philadelphia Eagles over a contract dispute.

AJ Brown went on to win another All-Pro selection as well as receiving MVP votes. His 88 catches for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns helped lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl.

So, the Titans refused to pay a 25-year-old receiver at the peak of his powers last year and this year they’re willing to pay a potentially washed-up 31-year-old receiver coming off knee surgery and a steroid suspension.

I know the GM responsible for that AJ Brown trade was fired last season after the Titans lost to the Eagles it’s the same owner and he has to reject this Hopkins move off optics alone.

Unless DeAndre turns back the clock to his old days in Houston with the sexual predator throwing him the ball, this deal is a waste of everyone’s time.

Oh, and the AFC South isn’t that open anymore. The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to ragdoll the rest of this division.

The Titans stink and DeAndre Hopkins is here for a check and some fun weekends in Nashville.

  • The Tennesee Titans have signed DeAndre Hopkins to a 2-year deal worth around $25 million
  • Last season, the Titans had the 30th-ranked passing offense.
  • The last time Hopkins was involved in a passing attack ranked that low was 2016 and that’s mainly thanks to Brock Osweiler’s bum ass.
  • Hopkins is easily the most talented playmaker on the team outside of Derrick Henry who is in no way a vertical threat like Hopkins is.
  • However, the Titans probably should’ve just kept AJ Brown if they needed receiver help.
  • Trading away your top receiver and then trading for a much older receiver is terrible team building.
