After Watching George Floyd’s Murder, Former Tennessee Coach, Jeremy Pruitt, Was Inspired To Give a Black Player $300 in a Chick-Fil-A Bag

Tennesee football was forced to vacate their 2019 and 2020 wins following an NCAA investigation into coach Jeremy Pruitt and his expensive recruiting handing out $60,000 to incoming players.

It is against the rules for a school to pay their players. It’s a gross ass rule but in 2019, every coach in the country has seen the consequences other coaches have had to endure for dropping bags off to kids so you either have to be reaaaaal clever with it like I imagine Nick Saban is or you need a good, just reason to do it.

For Jeremy Pruitt, his reason was George Floyd.

During the Coronavirus shutdowns, a player’s mother showed up to the team’s facility in tears, desperately seeking financial help at a time when many of us were out of work with bills that still needed to be paid.

Naturally, Pruitt directed her straight to his car where $300 would just be sitting in a Chick-Fil-A bag already.

Coach said he gave her the money because the financial aid office didn’t have it. Oh, and because of social injustice and white privilege.

“Then you throw in George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, okay, so you sit there as a white man and you see all of this going on and you can see these kids suffering,” Pruitt said.

“… (It’s) pitiful when you sit in a room and you hear grown men, and I’m talking about our coaches too, when they talk about growing up and the circumstances that they’ve been under, because it’s hard for a white man to understand, right.”

Wow, powerful stuff from coach Pruitt. It’s cool that these brutal police slayings affected some people enough to change the way they view race in this country. Dope. They didn’t die in vain.

Yup, it was George Floyd’s murder that made Jeremy Pruitt care about black people.

Not him being born and raised in Alabama and playing football his entire life with black people from every single background. Or him coaching young black men since 1997. Nope, it was a viral video that made Pruitt be like ‘Wait a minute, I’m starting to think America might have a racism problem’.

Personally, I am less interested in Pruitt’s white guilt and more fascinated by the parking lot cash exchange.

Does he keep hundreds of dollars in several fast food bags scattered around his car for quick pick-ups/drop-offs?

I know it’s against the rules to give families cash and handing over a stack of bills in broad daylight could bring the whole school down but I’d argue it’s even more suspicious when you tell people to run to your car and they always walk away nervously with a food bag like they’re stealing an Uber Eats delivery off someone’s front porch.

Or, Pruitt’s car is just dirty as hell and he picked up one of the many Chick-Fil-A bags on the floor to put $300 in it for a player’s mom who he had not considered a human until he witnessed George Floyd’s final breath.

Either way, I reckon it’s good to have a new, unemployed ally.

Also real quick, I have to give a shout-out to Joe Judge for hiring his old buddy Jeremy Pruitt to be a defensive assistant in 2021 after Tennesee fired him for destroying the credibility of their football program.

Joe Judge really put together The Expendables of coaches no one on Earth wanted on their teams. Jason Garrett and Freddie Kitchens led the offense and Pruitt helped out on D.

The Giants won 4 games that season and literally everyone was fired.

But Pruitt will land another high-paying gig and believe he earned it due to his own merit when in reality, he’s getting the job because another buddy is doing him a favor while simultaneously sharing MLK quotes about racial injustice and thinking he’s one of the good guys.
