Always love when a young man quits the game before his brain gets turned into maple syrup and he’s holding a gun to the head of an orphan at midfield of the stadium he played college at.

But what makes this specific retirement noteworthy is that Blake Martinez was just recently called up from the Raiders practice squad and was arguably their most impactful defender last Sunday against the Jaguars. He played in 90% of the defensive snaps and led the team with 11 tackles.

He busted his ass all year long to get an opportunity like he had on Sunday and he made the most of it. Soooooo, it’s obvious that the Las Vegas Raiders made him retire, right?

Let’s also add that the Raiders just cut their former first-round safety, Johnathan Abram who was immediately claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers before he had time to even pack up his locker.

The Las Vegas Raiders were supposed to compete in this all-time great AFC West but we’re halfway through the season and this team has 2 wins. Just two little wins.

Derek Carr looks like one of the worst QBs in the NFL. Davante Adams went from the no. 1 wide receiver in the league to some guy who gets paid a bajillion dollars to do cardio every week. The vibes in Vegas are off and I can’t help but think that maybe teams should stop hiring Josh McDaniels as their head coach.

Josh McDaniels went 11-17 in the two years he coached the Denver Broncos. He immediately got into a beef with Jay Cutler and had the arrogance of a Bill Belichick without actually reaching any of the accomplishments of Bill Belichick.

McDaniels—like every former Belichick coordinator—has no idea how to actually run a football club because Belichick is a once-in-a-generation brain and you can emulate his behaviors but you don’t get to take his knowledge with you when you leave.

Congratulations to Blake Martinez for having a huge game, looking around that locker room and then immediately filing the retirement paperwork. Martinez finished in the top 5 in tackles in 4 of his 7 career seasons. He was a ballhawk and now he gets to retire with a couple million in his bank account and no more blood leaking out of his ears. W.
