mitchell robinson injury
NBA

The New York Knicks are smashing teams with spiked bats and hammers, but sneakers may return to Earth following reports of defensive anchor Mitchell Robinson suffering a broken right pinky finger, with no timetable for a return.

Thanks, Shams…

Where would we be without you?…

What does this Mitchell Robinson injury mean for the NBA Finals?

At first glance, Mitchell Robinson’s broken finger, accompanied by “no timetable,” is worrisome.

Karl-Anthony Towns loves to foul and the Oklahoma City Thunder are the best at drawing them. Infuriatingly gifted in the art.

Mitchell Robinson minutes will be needed.

In the regular season, Mitchell Robinson made 60 appearances, averaging  5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals in 19.6 minutes—leading the league in offensive rebounding percentage and ranking 4th in offensive rebounds per game (4.2).

But he’s been restricted to just 14.2 minutes a game in the playoffs—a combination of KAT keeping his hands to himself—teams intentionally sending Mitch to the free throw line to disrupt the Knicks offensive vibes—and honestly, the Knicks are annihilating these guys. Everyone’s minutes are down, key players spend 4th quarters customizing their Door Dash orders while Pacome Dadiet balls for his life.

Mitchell Robinson will most likely be ready to play basketball next Wednesday, Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Tape that dead pinky to the rest of his hand and get back in the paint, big dog.

Where does Mitchell Robinson play basketball next season?

While we’re here, let’s talk about another Mitchell Robinson report from today.

ESPN’s Tim Bontemps sent feelers out around the league, including a check-in on Landry Shamet and Mitchell Robinson—both of whose contracts expire after the Finals.

Two major contributors to a miracle basketball run could be playing in other uniforms next season.

Here’s what an Eastern Conference exec said about the Knicks contract situation with Mitch and Landry:

“You have to bring him back,” an East executive said. “If they win the Finals, they’re not losing anybody. And, even if they don’t, I don’t see how they let him walk.”

He added, both players are likely to sign 2-year deals, extending this core and championship window to a potential 3-peat, if God still lives.

9 Finger Mitch is about to create history.
