NBA players requesting trades has broken so many brains. A star player says he wants to change cities and suddenly, everyone turns into anti-labor union busters. Julius Erving joins the growing list of butt-hurt dorks who think players who demand trades should be shot in the face for their war crimes.
“They have not helped the game and they have not helped to keep the parity within the game when you build these super teams… Look at how many times [Kevin] Durant has hopped around.”

You know what? Julius Erving is right about this.
Super Teams ruined the NBA.
You can tell from all of the empty arenas they play in. No one ever goes to games anymore because Kevin Durant played on the Warriors briefly.
The NBA is so close to going out of business now because one team was really good like, 5 years ago.
No one ever talks about this sport anymore. Trades and free agent signings barely get any coverage and that’s 1000% due to Kevin Durant asking for trades.
Julius Erving certainly has his pulse on the league. Or, ya know, what’s left of the league after super teams destroyed it.
I’d honestly be shocked if the NBA even has a season this year since super teams have obliterated this sweet game we grew up on when the Lakers and Celtics were in the Finals every year with All-Stars at every single position.
“The prisoners are running the show and not the warden. It’s where the star player on the team is like, ‘Screw this city and all this support that they’ve given me and I’m going south, I’m going to Florida, I’m going to LA or I’m going to Texas or I’m going somewhere else. They’re business decisions, understand, but they have not helped the game”.
Erving is 1000% correct.
The NBA is supposed to be run like a prison and these players need to shut up and enjoy the 30 minutes a day they get to use a cell phone.
These players need to shut up and sign away their life to whichever team randomly drafts them outside of their control. Kevin Durant should’ve spent the rest of his life in Oklahoma City because it’s best for the NBA and every player should be solely focused on getting their employers more money.
How dare they want to play in funner cities or with their friends or for a team with a front office that knows what they’re doing.
Your entire goal in life should be to grow the business you work for and you’re selfish if you prioritize your own needs. Your boss pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. They’re self-made. You should do everything in your power to help them.
Thank you, Julius Erving for shedding light on this very important and fresh, new issue that no one has shared their opinion on yet.
Random Stray Thoughts:
- The Miami Heat were just in the NBA Finals and we’re still having lame-ass conversations about Super Teams. Gabe Vincent and Caleb Martin were playing 40 minutes a night and NBA podcasts are still like ‘ugh, the 2016 Golden State Warriors ruined the league”. I love watching basketball. If you don’t then fucking don’t.
- Kevin Durant getting traded to the Suns may lowkey be a huge W for the NBA. I think the Nets are quietly building a little squad in Brooklyn with Mikal Bridges and Ben Simmons coming off a debilitating back injury. Plus all of the Suns draft picks. Plus, the Suns become real title contenders. It was a win-win for the NBA but don’t tell that to Julius Erving.
