Sean Payton and Nathaniel Hackett Have To Fight Now

Sean Payton is about to be the funniest head coach this season. After spending a year working for Fox Sports and openly speaking his mind on all things NFL, he is now bringing that same level of candidness with him as the Denver Broncos head coach.

In an interview with USA Today, Sean Payton unloaded the clip on how awful the 2022 Denver Broncos were and how it was mostly the fault of Nathaniel Hackett. In defense of Russell Wilson, Sean Payton said “But everybody’s got a little stink on their hands. It’s not just Russell. It was a (poor) offensive line. It might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL. That’s how bad it was.”

Nathaniel Hackett has to be in Sean Payton’s DMs right now looking to square up.

Sure, the Broncos sucked last year and Hackett was fired before the season ended but you can’t take my office and parking spot, and then tell everyone I was one of the worst coaches in NFL history.

Our fists have to meet.

And Sean Payton wasn’t done eithering Hackett. Payton has smoke for the Jets too, Hackett’s new place of work.

“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed,” Payton said. “And that happened here. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much (expletive) time trying to win the offseason — the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff.

“We’re not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when [former Washington owner] Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants [in 2000]. I was a young coach. I thought, ‘How are we going to compete with them? Deion’s [Sanders] there now.’ That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen … just put the work in.”

For no reason at all, Payton threw the Jets under the bus. Is there beef between these two? If I had to guess, I’d say Sean feels a way about these “offensive geniuses” who get all of these praise and job opportunities off the back of simply being fortunate enough to work with Hall of Fame QBs like Aaron Rodgers. I imagine Payton has a chip on his shoulder about how his success with Drew Brees is looked at and he’s projecting onto Hackett.

Regardless, Nathaniel Hackett has 24 hours to drop his diss track response.

Payton is out here trying to make Hackett look like the Monorail salesman from The Simpsons who travels town to town tricking fans with good offseason PR only to sell them a lemon when the season actually starts.

The good news is, the Jets and Broncos play on October 8th this year so these two men get a chance to be in the same building at the same time with the chance to hammer out their differences.

I want/need Hackett to pack the brass knuckles and scrap at midfield during the post-game handshaking.

Hackett’s homeboys need to put red lasers on the Broncos team bus like Ja Morant did with the Indiana Pacers.

If I’m Nathaniel Hackett, first, I’m never interviewing for another head coaching job again. Ever. Second, I’m making sure Sean Payton never feels safe again. We’re at war.

That Week 5 matchup between these teams just became must-see TV. There might be a stabbing.

Random Stray Thoughts:

  • Sean Payton is throwing Nathaniel Hackett under the bus to make Russell Wilson feel better about being mediocre last year. And Russell Wilson is egotistical enough to let Hackett take all of the blame even though Wilson was the one on that field missing all of those easy throws.

  • Not sure what coaching had to do with Wilson throwing a 5-yard dart directly into a linebacker’s chest.
  • I’d be shocked if the Broncos win more than 7 games this season but man, we are going to get some (accidentally) honest quotes from Sean Payton like he’s sitting on that little ottoman Colin Cowherd forces his guests on.
