Trey Lance Is About To Be The Most Annoying Player of the 2023 NFL Season

The entire 2023 NFL preseason has been centered around the San Francisco 49ers and Trey Lance. The moment San Fran announced Sam Darnold would be the QB2 ahead of Lance, all hell broke loose.

I think sports fans and the NFL media love pointing out when franchises make very obvious mistakes because it’s an easy opportunity to appear objectively correct and smarter than an NFL organization.

We all know the 49ers traded up for a quarterback with limited college football experience under the impression they’d be able to mold him into the exact quarterback head coach Kyle Shanahan has always dreamed about.

But circumstances changed.

Trey Lance’s chance to play was last season and unfortunately, he broke his leg and the 49ers were a game away from the Super Bowl without him. Lance probably isn’t that good but there’s no time to develop a QB when you’re on the cusp of a dynasty.

And I was okay with this repetitive discourse because I thought it would end when the season started but nope, the 49ers just did something that will put Trey Lance under an even larger microscope for the rest of the year.

We all knew Trey Lance was on the trading block but there couldn’t have been a worse landing spot than the Dallas fucking Cowboys.

Every sports program starts with a Cowboys conversation because the producers believe they are still the most popular team even though they haven’t had success since the 90’s and there’s an entirely new generation of fans who do not give a shit about this team.

Trey Lance is already the most talked about player in the league. Now that he’s on the Cowboys, he is going to continue to be the most discussed player without ever even stepping on the field.

And god forbid Dak Prescott gets injured at any point this year. Trey Lance could throw one pass and it’s going to be dissected like the JFK assassination.

We will never rid ourselves of this balding, mediocre, build-a-QB who has never actually played football and should have never been allowed to play in a professional sports league.

But also praying he takes Dak Prescott’s job because that would be the most hilarious outcome of all.
