Sportsmanship among professional athletes who get paid millions of dollars based on their end-of-season stat sheets should be abolished. Players are there to clock in, do their best to perform, clock out. Caring about the feelings of your opponents isn’t a job requirement.
Chicago White Sox geriatric manager, Tony La Russa, believes that you must always respect your opponent and never attempt to win by too much or whatever..
Earlier this week, the White Sox were dogwalking the Minnesota Twins 15-4 in the 9th inning with Twins infielder, Willians Astudillo, on the mound throwing beach balls at opposing hitters. With a 3-0 count, White Sox DH, Yermin Mercedes, slapped a 47mph pitch into the concession stands to extend Chicago’s huge lead.
3-0 bomb from Yermin Mercedes off of a position player!
Announcer: “I don’t like it. Up 15-4. I don’t like it”
Guess who does like it? Yermin. Yermin’s wallet. Yermin’s family who gets food put on their table by him. Fans of the Sox. Fans of baseball. pic.twitter.com/01zXiIE6dH

You can hear the announcer say he doesn’t like it. Laugh out loud.
I guess it’s bad to hit the baseball hard when you’re winning? Like, as the winner of the game, it’s apparently your responsibility to no longer try to win in fairness to the team that’s losing(?) Am I understanding this correctly?
Yermin Mercedes’s own manager decided to pile on the hate for his player, uh, succeeding?
Tony La Russa was ‘upset’ that Yermin Mercedes hit a home run on a 3-0 count last night in a blowout win.
“He made a mistake. There will be a consequence he has to endure here within our family.”

Just fire La Russa today.
Yermin Mercedes made a mistake?
What are we even doing here?
You know who made a mistake? The Twins, for sending in an infielder to pitch and being shocked when a guy who hasn’t pitched since he was going through puberty gives up homers.
You know who made a mistake? The bum throwing 47mph kickballs down the heart of the plate?
How are we seriously mad at Mercedes for hitting a ball hard? It’s his one job as a designated hitter.
I guarantee the same people made at Yermin for hitting a home run would be equally angry if Mercedes grounded to the shortstop and didn’t sprint full speed to first base. Dweebs.
This sport is so desperate to speed up games but they want batters to take 3-0 pitches and extend a boring 9th inning of a blowout game. What’s more exciting: A BOMB into the upper deck or ball 4?
Hitting has dipped this season. There’s a new pitcher throwing a no-hitter once a week. Get Tony La Russa OUT OF HERE for coming after his own player when all Mercedes did was hit a home run. That thing that we like players to do.
The next day, Yermin Mercedes was intentionally thrown at.

Very odd move by the Twins. You wouldn’t be in the position for Mercedes to embarrass you if you weren’t down 15-4 in the 9th inning. Strange to hit the guy who took advantage of a situation that your own team put him in but go off I guess.
Here’s what the great Tony La Russa said about Twins pitcher, Tyler Dufy, throwing at his player:
TLR says “I don’t have a problem with how the Twins handled it,” in regards to Duffey throwing at Yermin Mercedes.#WhiteSox

Personally, if the opposing team tries to purposely injure me, I’d want my coach to have my back instead of rooting for the guy attempting to hurt me but ok. New York Mets outfielder, Kevin Pillar, was hit in the fucking face with a fastball the other day and broke his face but yes, La Russa is totally okay with Mercedes being thrown at because Mercedes deserves it. He hit a home run and that’s illegal.
Tony La Russa is a 76-year old alcoholic who is sundowning at an alarming rate. But go White Sox or whatever.
