In 2020, the Carolina Panthers cut Cam Newton. Since that moment, they have proven to have no idea how to locate their next quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater, PJ Walker, Sam Darnold and Cam Newton (lol) have all led this team to a 10-23 record these past two seasons so it made sense for them to spend a 3rd round pick on Matt Corral, a quarterback out of Ole Miss.
Naturally, a reporter asked Matt Corral what he thought about falling to the no. 94 overall pick and naturally, Corral gave the lamest possible answer he could.
“I had a chip on my shoulder before, but it just got bigger,” Corral said, via Panthers director of content and broadcasting Bill Voth.
Siiiick.
The most overused cliche in the history of quarterbacking. The chip on Corral’s shoulder just got bigger. Look out, NFL defenses. You thought the chip on his shoulder was big before? Not even close to how big it is now.
He’s super motivated because he ‘dropped’ to the 3rd round even though some might say he went too high after recording the 2nd most interceptions in the COUNTRY 2 seasons ago. He had one fewer interception than Duke QB, Chase Brice, who was so bad he had to transfer to Appalachian State. They sent that kid to the mountains. Matt Corral is lucky he was allowed to even participate in the NFL Combine.
There are reports this week that the Panthers are still interested in acquiring Jimmy G or Baker Mayfield. Knowing Matt Corral, this just puts an even bigger chip on his shoulder. Can you imagine the size of the shoulder chips if Baker and Corral were in the same locker room? You almost wouldn’t be able to notice Sam Darnold making the most money on the team with a strong 9 touchdown/13 interception 2021 season.
Congrats to the Carolina Panthers going out of their way to build the most annoying quarterback room possible. Praying they sign Cam Newton for a third time so he can add his wonderful takes about women.
