Never Stop Roasting Chris Paul For Not Winning a Championship

chris paul daughter

Another NBA season almost in the books and another NBA season where Chris Paul won’t be winning a championship. Ah, the smile it brings to my face. CP3 recently told a story on a podcast about the effect his annual losing is having on his daughter:

At first, hearing this story about Chris Paul’s daughter getting made fun of in school for something out of her control can make you feel like a jerk. I’ve spent a lot of energy mocking the most annoying point guard I’ve ever seen play basketball without thinking about how it affects his family. Dang.

But then I remembered kids called me Lester The Molester in middle school for no reason other than it rhymed and my name was out of my control the same way Chris Paul’s daughter is being roasted for her dad’s failure. It happens. Kids are assholes. Especially rich kids. They are literally the worst.

I feel bad for his daughter though so I’ve been brainstorming ideas for Chris Paul to help her avoid getting bullied in school. Here’s what I came up with: win a fucking ring.

Now, I want to take a quick step back and say I hate how fans and media totally discard players’ seasons and entire careers based on whether or not they won a championship. It is a ridiculous way to discuss people who participate in a team game where there could be any number of circumstances making it more difficult to win a title.

Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless have made millions of dollars from getting in front of a TV camera and confidently stating players are trash based solely on the number of rings they’ve won and that reductive discourse has permeated into the way fans talk about these athletes.

It doesn’t matter if the Miami Heat or Denver Nuggets win. Nikola Jokic and Jimmy Butler were MONSTERS all playoffs and should be remembered fondly as such but we all know whichever team loses, people will jump on TV and say their season was a failure and talk about how overrated those guys are and blah blah. Bill Russell blah blah.

We never celebrate anyone’s accomplishments anymore and we exclusively shout about their L’s. Shit is corny.

THAT BEING SAID, Chris Paul is not about to go on a press tour attempting to claim how much damage we’ve done to his daughter when he is the one who has spent his whole NBA career flopping all over the court trying to trick the refs and game the system. He attempts to play the game with cheat codes and then whines to the referees when his Gameshark stops working in the playoffs.

Russell Westbrook tried this approach when he was struggling for the Lakers. He tried to make us feel guilty about calling him Westbrick because his kids were being made fun of and it almost worked but once again—kids are assholes.

These kids are going to be roasted regardless of what their parents do. You’re not going to do the Republican bullshit where you shield all of your feelings and beliefs under the guise of protecting children. Chris Paul isn’t telling us his daughter is upset. He’s actually telling us he’s upset about being mocked for not winning a ring.

Chris Paul was on a team with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. They lost in the second round. It’s not our fault you’re ring-less. If you have a problem with the jokes then perhaps you should’ve won one. Until that happens, we will continue to make you the butt of all of these jokes.

I will never forgive this nerd for telling the refs that a player didn’t have his jersey tucked in. Nah, make fun of him and his family forever. Cliff Paul can get the smoke too.
