Adrian Martinez is statistically the greatest quarterback in Nebraska football history. He’s leaving the Cornhuskers with 8,495 passing yards and 45 touchdowns to pair with 2,288 rushing yards and 35 more touchdowns. Those 10,772 yards are the most by any player in Nebraska history.
After 4 years of serving as the Huskers starting QB, Martinez is finally moving on and of course he is. If he has any hope of making the NFL, he needed to move to a different division and showcase his passing talent in a different offensive scheme against different defenses.
He also needs to transfer to a school that won’t lose every game. I’m sure he’s very thankful for Scott Frost for recruiting him and giving him the keys to the kingdom but with Frost firing all of the coaching staff yet still maintaining his job despite finishing 3-9 this year, Martinez was never going to succeed under that scammer.
Martinez will hope to have a Russell Wilson-esque final season that puts him on draft boards. In 2018, Gardner Minshew transferred from East Carolina to Washington State where he became the Pac-12 Player of the Year and somehow managed to start 12 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars his rookie season.
Adrian Martinez could fuck around and end up like, running the Miami Dolphins if he plays this transfer right.
Oklahoma quarterback, Spencer Rattler, is also entering the transfer portal after entering the season as a Heisman favorite and being benched pretty early on. There will be some big names changing hands but Martinez has the most to gain from this shakeup.
