Send the OKC Thunder To The Chinese Basketball Association

okc thunder

The OKC Thunder have been tanking for several years and have been applauded for their efforts. Hoarding first-round draft picks and throwing out lineups full of guys who would get run out of the local YMCA gym just for the hope of selecting a generational talent that will inevitably leave when their rookie contract is over because they either don’t want to live in Oklahoma or the organization can’t pay them because there are like, eight 24-year-olds all demanding new contracts at the same time.

On Thursday night, the OKC Thunder made history losing by 73 points to the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis won 152-79 without their star point guard. Ja Morant, even playing a single minute. The Grizzlies benched scored 93 points. The entire Thunder team scored 79…

I suppose I also have to point out that their starting point guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was sitting out due to a concussion and their rookie, Josh Giddey, was out as well but that meant it was time for Lu Dort to step up and show out.

Here’s what Dort was able to do on his own:

  • 25 minutes
  • 15 points
  • 3-for-8 from the field
  • 1 rebound
  • 2 assists
  • -53 +/-

This isn’t an NBA team. Perhaps it’s disrespectful to the Chinese Basketball Association to send the Thunder there. Jimmer Fredette would drop 100 on their heads and this franchise would still be happy to get draft picks or whatever. They should also be forced to bring Enes Kanter with them.

I’m not sure what the team Twitter account is supposed to tweet after they are bludgeoned by 73 points but ‘regroup and back at it Monday’ isn’t the correct answer. At least they get the weekend off to all sit-down and figure out how to get to 80 points.
