Munetaka Murakami bobblehead night at Rate Field Sunday, come through. The Murakamis will be there.

Dont worry, Mom did not leave her swag at home.
Apple fell right next to the tree. The 26-year-old Kumamoto Killer walked into his first at-bat, on his bobblehead night, punched a 2-run bomb over the fence—his first homer since coming off the IL, his 21st on the season.
Murakami went 3-for-5 with 6 RBIs and a 2nd homer (22 homers on the season, now, excuse me*) in the bottom of the 8th as the White Sox clobbered Houston to avoid the sweep and end the Astros 5-game win streak.
White Sox won 60 games last season.
They’re 55-49 on July 27th, leading the AL Central by 2.5 games.
The Montgomery Bros balling. 3B Miguel Vargas having a career-best, All-Star season. Their starting pitchers locking in. Munetaka Murakami dropping bombs across the country. Eye for an eye.
But their catchers suck.
White Sox looking for a catcher
Drew Romo with a slick ABS challenge to get his pitcher the K on Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. Yordan is treating baseballs like Eric Bienemy’s son treats his mother. Use every ABS challenge system, knife, riffle, whatever it takes to get Alvarez’s bat out of his paws.
2nd-year catcher Kyle Teel sprained his ankle last week, out for 6-12 weeks—his season’s over. Romo carries a minor leaguer’s bat to the plate.
2025 White Sox: go out there, Drew. Stink. Everyone else does.
2026 White Sox have no time for Drew Romo batting .131 with a 46 wRC+ and a -0.4 WAR. American League sitting in a duffle, right on that corner table. Chicago can just walk over and take it. Aaron Judge can’t stop them. His ribs hurt. Drew Romo’s .226 OBP will have the cops outside waiting.
This season, Chicago’s catchers have combined to hit .163/.241/.265 across 391 plate appearances, the worst catcher group in all the land.
Kyle Teel is the catcher of the future, despite his dogshit 2026. Teel—Chicago’s prize for trading Garrett Grochet to Boston—hit .273/.375/.411 with 8 homers in 78 games as a rookie last year.
The White Sox just need a rental to hit better than abysmal.
Here are 3 catcher trade targets for the SOX.
1. Tyler Stevenson: The Reds catcher on an expiring deal, atop every team’s board. a 94 OPS+, not a Curtis Mead-level addition but for a catcher splitting time with the great Drew Romo, Tyler Stevenson provides some hypothetical, vague sense of a threat so the White Sox can stop playing 8 vs. 9.
2. Jonah Heim: The A’s deadline plans covered in this morning’s coffee—All-Star slugging catcher Shea Langeliers, best season of his life, blew his ACL, out for the season. The 44-61 Athletics no longer able to cash in—now downgrading to auctioning off their backup C/1B/DH switch-hitting Jonah Heim. 88 OPS+, selling lemons in the middle of the Washington Bridge rush hour traffic.
Heim not as good as Tyler Stevenson. Significantly less good than Shea Langeliers. But he’s cheaper and more versatile.
3. Austin Wells: Yankees pull off a heist, rob Colorado of their all-star catcher Hunter Goodman, maybe they’d be willing to part ways wth Austin Wells—offering him a fresh start in Chicago. Or maybe the Yankees get Ryan Jeffers from the Twins—a player Chicago could use, but with Minnesota still fighting them for the division, the Twins are more likely to send antrax to Chicago than Jeffers. Either way, Yankees may look to move on from Wells—a player who is statistically one of the worst hitters in baseball this season.
The Chicago White Sox must do everything in their power to ensure Munetaka Murakami gets postseason at-bats, his swing mighty enough to take this club of losers to the Promised Land.
