Josh Giddey Can’t Play in the NBA Anymore

josh giddey

At the time I’m writing this, the Oklahoma City Thunder are on a 6-game winning streak and are tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves for first place in the Western Conference. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a potential MVP candidate with Chet Holmgren dominating on both sides of the floor.

Josh Giddey fills his role as an unselfish two-guard whose job is to move the ball around and grab rebounds. Up to this point, Giddey’s biggest flaw was his inability to hit jumpers. He’s shooting 31% from 3 and he’s coming off a game against the Bulls where he shot 4-for-13. Giddey loves missing shots. I imagine this extends to his personal life which explains why he’s lowering the rim.

What weird shit is Josh Giddey doing in his personal life?

This week we found out the 3rd-year guard is out here smooching up on a teenage girl. I tried not to dive too deep into the rabbit hole because we tend to focus so closely on attacking the perpetrator that we don’t even care enough about the victim to protect her identity.

There’s a 16-year-old girl whose photos, dating history and personal information are floating around social media so people can get some likes, retweets and the most temporary clout ever.

There are several images from her social media bragging about being with Giddey as well as posts from guys who are like, in her social studies class, mad at Giddey for taking their girl. Johnny from 5th period Chemisty is competing with the starting shooting guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Keep your head up, little homie. It gets easier.

How do we even talk about this?

I almost didn’t want to write about this story.

The internet has weaponized pedophilia in a way that has turned all the attention away from protecting children from predators and instead, pedophilia is a way of attacking political enemies or simply humiliating dudes without really caring about the underage victims involved.

Last year there were daily arguments about banning drag shows because they are pedophiles grooming children when in reality they’re dudes who like to dress up to sing, dance and tell some jokes. But the word pedophile was thrown at them because it’s a quick way to get people to care about your cause under the guise of saving children.

Fortunately, all of this Josh Giddy stuff came to light early enough that it appears the two have only recently begun hooking up and this can be swiftly ended before it gets worse. It’s like a doctor catching a cancerous growth in your body early enough to save your life. We don’t need another Diddy/Cassie situation where a teenage girl moves in and becomes almost indebted to the far more powerful, richer man and they end up enduring years of abuse without a lifeline out because their entire life and identity is wrapped around their famous partner.

Josh Giddey was 20 years old last month. When you’re 20, you tend to find yourself in rooms with people who are your age or younger in a way that someone my age isn’t. And for Giddey specifically, there are places in Australia where 16 is the age of consent. 1

And all of those excuses are valid for a regular civilian. But when you’re in the NBA playing in front of thousands of people every night and you make millions of dollars, you have access to faaaaaaaaar more women who aren’t taking the school bus to the local Oklahoma high school every Monday morning.

What should the NBA do about this?

The NBA announced they are investigating this potentially inappropriate relationship, although it appears Giddey is still allowed to practice with the team and play in the meantime. Yuck.

If I’m running the Oklahoma City Thunder—or really any NBA franchise—Josh Giddey cannot be on my payroll. And it’s not because he’s sleeping with a girl 4 years younger than him. No, Giddey can’t be on my team because I cannot trust his decision-making.

If you don’t realize how fucking GOOFY you look leaving an NBA arena and driving to some high school party at a house where the kid’s parents are away for the weekend so you can make out with a girl who is stressed about taking her SATs then you can’t help my franchise win championships.

Josh Giddey is a loser, man. I need adults who aren’t operating at an 11th-grader’s emotional level. My squad needs grown ass men who are competitive on and off the floor.

Do the OKC Thunder need Josh Giddey?

Sure, the Thunder are the best team in the West right now and shaking up the starting lineup to remove Giddey’s 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists a game but now you have to factor in the mental toll of Giddey’s social media mentions being filled with baby emojis and fans on the road harassing him, deservingly so. He has already established he’s mentally a little boy.

Look at Deshaun Watson in the NFL. He sexually harassed every massage therapist in Houston and now he plays like he has no idea how to throw a football because his sex crimes completely shattered his self-esteem. Poor Deshaun.

Personally, as a quiet Isaiah Joe stan, I am all about getting Giddey the fuuuck out of here and moving Joe into the starting 5. He’s a far superior perimeter shooter than Giddey and can get buckets quickly and efficiently.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been hoarding draft picks for years. Josh Giddey being a low-IQ creep is the best scenario for the team.

You can’t pay Shai, Chet, Lu Dort and the Jalen/Jaylin Williams boys. Some of these guys are going to be packaged up and traded for a bigger prize. Giddey has automatically disqualified himself from getting a long-term deal on Oklahoma. Sam Presti probably celebrated when he saw the photos of Giddey with a girl who isn’t old enough to drive a car yet.
