Joe Johnson is Coming To Save the NBA

Everyone in the NBA has Covid but games are still being played every night despite most teams missing half of their rosters as guys quarantine. Instead of pausing the season or even ramping up Covid protocols, the NBA elected to give teams more roster spots which has granted us the opportunity to witness the return of the king.

ISO JOE BACK.

I can understand people not getting excited about a 40-year old shooting guard who hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018 signing a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics.

To some people, it’s an indication of the league’s failings. Running out a bunch of guys who play for the Big 3 league made for retired washed up old men may appear desperate and unnecessary when the NBA should pause until they get a handle on the Omicron variant.

And that’s absolutely true. The NBA bubble worked. I also understand people who never want to watch bubble basketball anymore and see guys like TJ Warren and Duncan Robinson look like MVP candidates balling their asses off in empty gyms where you can hear a pin drop and there are zero Instagram hoes sitting courtside.

Let’s acknowledge the NBA’s negligence while glass half-fulling the return of guys like Mario Chalmers and Sauce Castillo.

But this Joe Johnson signing is different. In an era where pretty much every team plays an identical style of basketball, Iso Joe will be providing a new perspective outside of chucking 3’s and attempting to draw egregiously nonexistent fouls.

Joe maneuvers like a panther prowling the jungle for dinner. His ability to move at his own pace and pick exact spots on the floor to attack while simultaneously moving so smoothly as if he is unbothered by his defender, the shot clock or any of the pressures of being a professional basketball scorer.

Crossing up Paul Pierce so badly that he slaps the floor like a 5-foot-8 walk-on at Duke getting his first minutes of the season on senior night.

The midrange jumper is back this season. DeMar DeRozan is leading the Chicago Bulls all thanks to him pulling up from the least effective spots on the court and draining every shot. This is Joe Johnson’s time.

Unfortunately, we all have to watch him play for this terrible Celtics team full of guys who have no idea how to play as a team. They are awkward out there. Now they can clear out and let Joe be Joe.
