Derek Fisher is the worst head coach in the history of history. After leading the Knicks to a 17-win season—the worst record in the history of the entire franchise—Fisher failed upwards into a head coaching position for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Derek Fisher should never coach another professional basketball team. He was handed his first opportunity with the Knicks by Phil Jackson—his former head coach who didn’t even want to be president of the team but reluctantly accepted the position because James Dolan gave him a bajillion dollars.
Sure, the roster lacked talent but a team with Carmelo Anthony under contract should win more than 17 games.
Perhaps Fisher would be more focused on game-planning if he wasn’t in the middle of a love triangle with Matt Barnes and his estranged wife that led to a midseason fist fight.
Has Gregg Popovich ever banged an active player’s wife? Has Steve Kerr? Ty Lue?
Being an NBA head coach is a full-time job. You have to be obsessed with basketball and more importantly—winning basketball games. Fisher was focused on getting laid and sneaking around with a married woman. Jose Calderon was bringing the ball up, looking at the sideline for the coach to call plays and Fisher was licking his lips trying to eye-fuck Instagram models sitting courtside.
He finished his NBA coaching career with a wonderful 40-96 record before somehow stumbling into becoming the Los Angeles Sparks head coach.
The biggest weakness the WNBA has is its coaching. We are seeing it in real-time. Bill Laimbeer consistently had the most talented rosters coaching the Las Vegas Aces and they played like the 1950’s Boston Celtics. Becky Hammon has taken over this season and the Aces are the best team in the WNBA and finally playing a modern basketball style.
So it was frustrating as hell to see one of the worst NBA coaches get an opportunity in the WNBA when the league is so desperate for new basketball minds to properly utilize the growing wealth of talent. It makes it even worse to hire a dangerously horny man to lead a locker room of women. Just atrocious optics from the Sparks organization.
Derek Fisher’s replacement will be Fred Williams Freddie Williams has a close relationship with star center, Liz Cambage, which will be critical for the Sparks. Williams is responsible for bringing Cambage back to the WNBA in 2018 after she left the league for 5 years. It should be smooth sailing between the coach and star as long as they never play against any Nigerians.
