Dodgers star right fielder Kyle Tucker has opted to defer the use of his talents for a later date.
The biggest hitter on the free agency market—sports media rooms built around predicting his landing spot, the news cycle in the palm of hands—elects to join the back-to-back World Series champion, signing a 4-year $240m deal with the LA Dodgers, $30m deferred, paid out in $1m annual deposits starting a decade from now.
Tucker is returning the favor but also deferring his skills, focus and talents for later—sporting a career-low 0.1 WAR and a 60 wRC+ at Dodger Stadium—falling off a cliff in August, when the games start mattering most.
Hitless in 7-straight games, 0-for-his-last-23 at the plate (0-for-19 during the Dodgers most recent homestand, scaring the hoes at the crib), and providing opposing teams bonus outs with his porous glove and half-hearted efforts…

In the midst of Kyle Tucker deciding to bend his employer over, the Milwaukee Brewers, the best team in the National League, now, took 3 of 4 games from LA last week as Tucker watched from the best seats in the house.
At 75-51, LA stands a half game above the Atlanta Braves for the second-best record in the NL. If Los Angeles wants to win the World Series and complete the historic threepeat, they may have to let the Braves finish above them, end with, like, the 3rd best record, and play every postseason series on the road, so Kyle Tucker participates, you know, the guy hitting 126wRC+ in every building away from home.
Kyle Tucker is becoming one of my favorite players. He is my pro-labor king. The LA Dodgers will get all of Kyle Tucker’s full talent when all that deferred money is secured in the account. Until then, the other 8 All-Stars in the batting order got it.
