Derek Jeter Was Never Meant To Own The Marlins

derek jeter

Derek Jeter has randomly stepped down as the CEO of the Miami Marlins after 4 and a half years of just vibing out. Here’s his statement regarding his departure:

“The vision for the future of the franchise is different than the one I signed up to lead”.

Interesting.

That line could mean a couple of different things. I don’t think it’s a coincidence Jeter is leaving an ownership position in the midst of heated negotiations between owners and players. As a former player, it must feel nasty to sit across from them and deny them what they deserve.

And if we’ve learned anything from Jon Gruden, these wealthy assholes are giving it up in their emails. I can only imagine the email threads of these owners saying the wildest shit. Remember a few years ago when the Mariners fired Lorena Martin and she threw a grenade calling members of the front office racist?

Derek Jeter was probably CC’ed on some terrible email chains from billionaires shitting on everyone who isn’t allowed at their country clubs.

It’s also possible Jeter was frustrated not only with the state of Major League Baseball, but the Marlins themselves. Seems like a daunting task attempting to run a winning baseball club in a modern day where the same 3 or 4 teams win 100 games and every other team is a glorified AAA club.

But at the end of the day, it was under Jeter’s watch when the Marlins gave away Giancarlo Stanton for a used Metro Card and a Hulu subscription. If the Marlins suck, it’s because Jeter isn’t trying hard enough to spend on top players.

Derek Jeter just wants to be retired and left alone. I’d be shocked if his cell phone is even charged right now. The only information we know about him is from girls he slept with talking to TMZ. Otherwise, the star of one of the biggest sports franchises in the world in one of the biggest cities in the world spend his entire career avoiding spotlight and responsibilities off the field.

This man was never supposed to own a baseball team. He never wanted to participate in labor negotiations. He just wanted to make some money from his Florida home. We should all be shocked he owned the team for as long as he did. I’m sure it was a long 4 years for Derek.
