Deadseriousness 2021 NFL Preview: New York Giants

new york giants

This year I’m going to write a 2021 preview for every NFL team. Or I’m going to write like, for 1 or 2 teams and forget and then all of a sudden it’s going to be opening night but either way, here’s my attempt.

Here’s my look at the 2021 New York Giants:

2020 recap

Last season, the Giants went 6-10 and narrowly missed the playoffs thanks to Doug Pederson intentionally losing the final game of the season in order to spite New York. That asshole knew he was being fired and brought the Giants down in the hole with him.

Biggest storyline: Do players hate Joe Judge?

joe judge

A lot of media members are saying that this year is going to be about Daniel Jones and whether or not he is deserving of the title of franchise quarterback but Jones will be the Giants starting QB for Week 1 in 2022 regardless of what occurs this season.

We are still deciding if Joe Judge is deserving of a head coach position considering his previous experience was bringing Nick Saban coffee in the AM and parking Bill Belichick’s car. Doesn’t help the narrative when 4 players retired on Judge during training camp because he went too hard on the team.

Biggest addition: Saquon Barkley

I could not convince myself that Kenny Golladay or Kadarius Toney were such huge signings for the Giants. I love their depth at that position with Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard returning but neither Golladay nor Toney are top no. 1 guys. All four receivers are fine.

But the biggest addition is the return of Saquon Barkley who only carried the ball 18 times last season. Personally, I think Barkley might be the most overrated running back ever but I won’t pretend as if his ability to burst through with a 50+ yard carry at any given moment is going to be crucial for a team that finished 31st in scoring last season.

Biggest offseason mistake: Jason Garrett

jason garrett

Going to repeat one last time that the Giants finished 31st in scoring last season right above the New York Jets and we all saw how atrocious the Jets were last year. If you have the worst offensive team in the league, why bring back the coach that is directly responsible for that?

“you have to call me coach”. Ok. 31st in yards last season and this motherfucker is demanding reporters call him coach. Jason Garrett, retire challenge.

Best Case Scenario: The Defense

Last season, the Giants defense finished 9th in points allowed and 12th in yards allowed. With DC Patrick Graham returning to coach this team, the Giants might be on the footsteps of having a Top 10 defense in the NFL.

They’ve added vet corner Adoree Jackson from Tennessee as well as drafting two pass rushers, Azeez Ojulari and Elerson Smith to play alongside Blake Martinez, Jabril Peppers, Logan Ryan, James Bradberry and Leonard Williams.

Top 10 D incoming.

Worst Case Scenario: Daniel Jones

What if Daniel Jones just sucks? The New York Giants put all of their eggs into the Daniel Jones basket because he reminded them of Eli Manning but if Eli Manning were to start his career today, I’m not confident he would find anywhere near as much success as he did.

Quarterbacks are putting up huge numbers now and if Daniel Jones is going to struggle to top 3,000 passing yards again then it doesn’t matter who’s the offensive coordinator or how Barkley’s legs feel, this team is going to suck.
