Daniel Jones Deserves More Respect

daniel jones

The New York Giants are 6-1. They are one of the best teams in football. New head coach, Brian Daboll, seems to be receiving all of the credit for the wins while Daniel Jones seems to just be another guy with a parking space at the team facility along with the backup linebackers and waterboys.

The NFL media is reluctant to acknowledge Jones’s contributions to the winning as if he is some casual passenger watching from the sidelines.

Here is the ESPN Get Up crew screaming at each other over a Lamar Jackson vs. Daniel Jones conversation:

Someone stood up to shout about how bad Daniel Jones is. Just mentioning his name creates fights.

The Giants and the Eagles have the same number of wins yet I constantly see Jalen Hurts in the MVP debate while Daniel Jones gets laughed out of the discussion immediately. Are we really to believe Hurts is soooo much better than Jones?

Let me list of both their stats and let’s see if one of these players is astronomically better than the other:

Jalen Hurts:

  • 1,514 passing yards
  • 6 passing TDs
  • 2 interceptions
  • 8.2 yards per attempt
  • 98.4 passer rating
  • 59.1 QBR
  • 0 4th quarter comebacks
  • 293 rush yards
  • 3.8 yards per carry
  • 6 rushing TDs

Daniel Jones

  • 1,223 passing yards
  • 6 passing TDs
  • 2 interceptions
  • 6.5 yards per attempt
  • 90.8 passer rating
  • 62.7 QBR
  • 4 4th quarter comebacks
  • 343 rushing yards
  • 5.9 yards per attempt
  • 3 rushing TDs

As you can see, Jalen Hurts has some better passing numbers than Jones but DJ is more dangerous when he scrambles. Hurts’s numbers aren’t lightyears ahead of Jones for one to be an MVP candidate and the other to be a guy on a team.

Again, THEY HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF WINS.

And it would be obtuse to ignore who Hurts is throwing the ball to compared to Jones. Jalen has Devonta Smith and AJ Brown. Two NFL receivers who could easily make the Pro Bowl every season.

Daniel Jones is throwing to Richie James and Marcus Johnson. If you aren’t a Giants fan then you have left Deadseriousness.com and opened a new tab to Google who the fuck those two guys even are.

So why are people so reluctant to give Daniel Jones credit?

In Daniel Jones’s first 3 seasons, he was a turnover machine. There was nothing that man loved more than giving the football away to the defense. He definitely led the NFL in altruism.

By sucking for 3 years, Jones gave everyone the battery they needed to maintain their original criticisms of his original draft selection. He was selected no. 6 overall in 2019 which was a streeeeetch.

The Giants had holes all over their roster and reached for a QB who 1000% would’ve been available in the 2nd round or later but then-GM, Dave Gettleman, was a stubborn asshole who didn’t understand the draft and positional value.

Josh Allen, Devin White, Ed Oliver, Brian Burns, Jeffrey Simmons and Montez Sweat were all defensive playmakers available in the first round and Gettleman chose Jones. Wonderful.

The NFL media, more so than any other sport, is rigid and safe. When there is a narrative out on a player, you will see 99% of NFL media personalities all riding that narrative and refusing to change their minds until their peers do and it becomes safe to believe that.

Everyone thought Josh Allen sucked and now he’s the MVP favorite. Do you know how he escaped the constant doubt of NFL personalities? Because someone went on TV and said he’s good and everyone tweeted at them agreeing so every other media personality jumped on that bandwagon because everyone is afraid of being wrong.

Daniel Jones needs a respected NFL personality to ride for him. No, it cannot be Rex fucking Ryan. He needs a Mina Kimes or Terry Bradshaw to start acknowledging how much he contributes to the Giants winning and the avalanche will fall.

PUT SOME RESPECT ON DANIEL JONES NAME.
