Chiefs needed OC Eric Bieniemy. 20th in yards, 21st in scoring, OC Matt Nagy, somehow immediately earning a job with the New York Giants, dragged the Kansas City Chiefs offense to mediocrity.
Injuries were a factor too, obviously, Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL. Travis Kelce moves like the oldest player in NFL history. I don’t think he’s eating salads at all those Taylor Swift dinners.
The return of Eric Bieniemy working with Mahomes and this offense, combined with the additions of Super Bowl MVP RB Kenneth Walker and Rashee Rice healthy, sleeping in his own bed, Kansas City dynasty ain’t over yet.
But it’s one battle after another for Eric Bieniemy, the man who shall never be head coach.

Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized in stable condition Monday. Police in Loudoun County, Virginia, confirmed that a woman was being treated for “serious injuries” from multiple gunshot wounds but did not disclose her identity.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Sources told ESPN that Mia Bieniemy was shot in the chest and arm.
After parting ways with Kansas City following the 2022 season as assistant head coach and OC, Bieniemy earned playcalling duties on Ron Rivera’s Washington Commanders staff, let go when Ron Riveras was fired after the season. Turning to college as the only place that’ll allow the SUPER BOWL WINNING OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR TO CALL PLAYS, Eric Bieniemy was fired 10 months into his assistant head coach/OC job at UCLA, landing in Chicago last season, managing the running backs.
This season back in Missouri, getting the gang back together for one last job, a mission to rejuvenate everyone’s careers.
And on the first week of training camp, Bieniemy is gone, navigating an absurd tragedy not even logged in his brain as a possibility before it happened.
His wife’s life on the line, his son’s freedom, also on a line, looks like EB won’t be around for the 2026 campaign.
It sucks when your family shoots at your family riiiiight at the end of your summer vacation.
