Shams Charania is Singlehandedly Responsible for the Destruction of the NBA Internet Discourse

Shams Charania is a man who has dedicated his entire life to being the first guy to learn and share about any and all NBA player transactions. The Hoop Central is a Twitter account that posts memes and gained a following shitting on players.

This week we learned they are one entity.

In an attempt to post an Instagram screenshot of Draymond Green commenting on a Shams post about the suspension of Pat Beverley, Shams may have accidentally exposed that he is Hoop Central.

Shams appears to be logged into the account that was screenshotted. The post was immediately deleted which is a typical sign of guilt and/or embarrassment.

I guess I should take a moment and defend Shams here. There are a few reasons why this probably isn’t Shams. First, he’s one of the busiest men in sports so I’d imagine he doesn’t have the time to run a meme account BUT how long does it really take to look through a boxscore and see Ben Simmons sucks and post about it? Makes you think.

It’s also possible that whoever took that screenshot also runs a Shams parody account that uses the same profile picture. I never understood making a burner account to pretend to be another man—especially Shams of all people but perhaps this sicko enjoys tricking people with fake NBA transactions and they get Likes that light up their phone while their actual friends leave their texts on read.

Perhaps Hoop Central is run by a buddy of Shams and when Shams saw Draymond Green’s comment, he took a screenshot and sent it over to his buddy for some content on a slow Thanksgiving week. That’s a lame-ass group of friends but it’s a possibility.

But it’s far funnier to just assume that Shams accidentally doxxed himself with Hoop Central so we’ll be riding with that narrative forever.

The Hoop Central— and Twitter accounts like them—have destroyed NBA discourse along with ESPN First Take debate shows where a player is either the best in the league or absolute trash. Hoop Central comments are full of high schoolers trying to be edgy and funny by joining in the slandering of NBA superstars while never actually going into detail with their critiques but simply posting “LeMicky+ L + ratio” over and over again while the girls they have crushes on laugh at their texts.

These are the accounts that have gathered fan bases who will continue to call Russell Westbrook “Westbrick” despite Russ emotionally pleading with people to stop for no reason other than to be corny trolls and get likes and retweets from other incels who think comedy is when you make people mad at you.

Shams ruined the NBA.

The media is divided between people like he and Woj who exist solely to release information as quickly as possible without any real journalism involved like how they rushed to say Ime Udoka vaguely did something with women in Boston but didn’t actually give any details or provide any facts.

You either vomit up injury updates all day long or you give hot takes that make no sense just so you can stand out and trend on Twitter for the day.
