The Resurrection of Kevin Knox

kevin knox

When the New York Knicks selected Kevin Knox no. 9 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, the city thought they were getting a young athletic shooter made of clay to be molded into a potential star. Unfortunately, the Knicks have no idea how to develop talent and David Fizdale was a sociopath smiling while the team won 17 games and none of the young guys got any minutes.

Knox was a top 10 player coming out of high school (one spot ahead of former teammate Mitchell Robinson). The Knicks gave up on the 6-foot-9 forward who was talented enough to be recruited and play meaningful minutes for Kentucky and sent him to Atlanta as Cam Reddish was complaining about his playing time on the Hawks soooo Knox pretty much maintained Reddish’s warm seat on the bench.

Fast forward to 2022 and it appears Kevin Knox has finally figured out the NBA.

Here’s what Knox was able to do on Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz:

  • 26 minutes
  • 21 points
  • 6-for-8 from 3
  • 3 rebounds
  • +9

As he receives more minutes, Knox is proving he not only belongs in the NBA but could most likely be a key wing player on a good team. Every NBA playoff series is swung by a guy like Knox who can hit six 3’s and play strong on-ball defense.

And with Detroit being one of the worst teams in the NBA thanks to Cade Cunningham mulling over season-ending surgery and being replaced by Killian Hayes—one of the biggest busts in NBA history—it’s safe to say Kevin Knox is only going to get more minutes to prove he’s a beast.

You can assume that if Cade is gone for an extended stretch and the Pistons keep losing that this organization is going to move some veterans out of town like Bojan Bogdanović who is directly ahead of Knox on the depth chart.

We could be a few weeks away from the complete crowning of Kevin Knox and for the sake of his career and his future, I am hoping he can stay in Detroit and attach himself to Cade Cunningham because this young core with Marvin Bagley, Jaden Ivey, Sadiiq Bey and potentially adding a Top 3 pick in next year’s draft will be a force in the NBA at some point.

It’s insane that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted two picks after Knox and as a Knicks fan, I will never stop hearing about this until the day I finally go off the grid and live amongst the wilderness and use old Ron Baker jerseys to light fires.

In the meantime, I will be microdosing on Kevin Knox made 3’s for the remainder of the year.

Shout out to Meg the Stallion for seeing the vision this whole time. She was wearing Knox jerseys before I even knew the NBA was making them. Tory Lanez did that shit.
