The Bulls won the No. 4 overall pick in last month’s draft lottery.
Chicago currently controls the 4th, 15th, 38th and 56th picks in this year’s draft
According to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports, Chicago hosted a pre-draft workout on Tuesday featuring Keaton Wagler (Illinois), Kingston Flemings (Houston), Nate Ament (Tennessee) and Morez Johnson (Michigan)— talented players who may not even be on the board by the time Chicago’s back on the clock at 15.
So either the Bulls are trading down from 4, or they’re trading up behind No. 4 to select a second guy they really love.
Two options before us, a fork in the road.
Here’s why the Bulls should trade down from 4
Patrick Williams is the worst player in the NBA, set to make $18 million a year until the summer of 2029.
From everything I read, this draft is a bonafire Top 4 with a bunch of nice players behind them. So the Bulls have control of the last superstar potential player with the 4th pick.
Leverage.
If the Chicago Bulls can convince Brooklyn or Sacramento to believe in the Cam Boozer ceiling— I, personally, cannot find myself to even pretend to entertain, like, this is them most Jahlil Okafor motherfucker I’ve seen.
Good luck with Marvin Bagley to whoever drafts him— but the Bulls should move down slightly, get Patrick Williams off the books and add point guards Kingston Fleming or Keaton Wagler to the backcourt with Giddey— Buzelis and Tre Jones running the wings— use all that cap space to take a shot at a restricted free agent big man like Jalen Duren, Walker Kessler or even 24-year old center Ariel Hukporti on the Knicks.
That’s an interesting little squad, eh?
Here’s why the Bulls should trade up from 15
The Bulls suck and need more young players with upside— not just players who are young and “technically” have all this potential but actually just suck and happen to be in their 20’s.
Teams like the Detroit Pistons could just overwhelm Chicago with a bunch of athletic young guys who believe in themselves unconditionally (at least in the regular season…yike)
The Bulls can still do everything I described earlier, except with Cam Boozer or Caleb Wilson (and Patrick Williams).
You know what’s better than having one top prospect?
Two of them thangs.
Either way, Chicago is in a position build a title contender. With a new front office in place, the Bulls could be a team again soon.
