5 Teams That Should Trade For Stephon Gilmore

stephon gilmore

In 2019, Stephon Gilmore won the Defensive Player of the Year. He is a 4-time Pro Bowler and 2-time All-Pro. He led the league in interceptions and deflected passes in his Defensive Player of the Year season.

In 2020, he took a step back while nursing a quad injury. Now, the Patriots are looking to gain draft capital and save money by sending the former DPOY elsewhere.

Here are the teams that should trade for Stephon Gilmore:

1. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have lost Patrick Peterson, Dre Kirkpatrick, Johnathan Joseph and Kevin Peterson this offseason. They literally need a cornerback after letting their entire secondary walk in free agency.

Arizona is building a super team after acquiring AJ Green, Malcolm Butler and JJ Watt in the offseason. Patrick Peterson is an 8-time Pro Bowler and 3-time All-Pro. If you plan on being a great team and challenging for a Super Bowl appearance then you have to replace greatness with greatness.

2. San Diego Chargers

NFL teams have learned that the best way to win games in the NFL is to draft a great young QB and take advantage of his cheap rookie contract by using the additional cap space to sign All-Pro talent around him.

Justin Herbert is that dude and the Chargers have the 6th most cap space available to both trade for Stephon Gilmore and sign him to a long-term contract.

I don’t see Bill Belichick trading to an AFC rival but I don’t plan these articles. It’s all stream of consciousness and I’m just realizing the Patriots wouldn’t do this but I’m certainly not backspacing anything so whatever.

Let’s keep it moving.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

When you have to play against Patrick Mahomes and the aforementioned Justin Herbert twice a season, you’re going to need a strong secondary. It also doesn’t help that your 2020 first-round pick, Damon Arnette, kind of stinks. Yes, they signed Casey Hayward but Gilmore is a different level of talent.

You also need a corner that can generate turnovers and flip the field for your miserable ass offense that ranks dead last in points per game since Jon Gruden arrived in 2018.

4. Los Angeles Rams

Jalen Ramsey is already recruiting Gilmore to join a stacked Rams defense and this organization has proven that they don’t give a single fuck about first-round draft picks. They will give you their next ten first-round picks in order to acquire a star in their prime.

Aaron Donald rushing opposing quarterbacks and forcing them to blindly chuck footballs into the arms of Stephon Gilmore and Jalen Ramsey turning the ball over to a Matthew Stafford-led offense to score on a short field.

Rams in 4.

5. New York Giants

The Giants. Duh. Are you new here? My favorite football team should always trade for the best players. I thought they should’ve gone after Julio Jones and I think they should go after Stephon Gilmore. No team has ever lost because they had too many good players.
