On Tuesday night, Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-4 with a walk and a homer in the Blue Jays 6-2 victory over the New York Yankees snapping Toronto’s 6-game losing streak.
The home run put Vlad in sole custody of the Major League home run lead with 16 on the season.
HE’S DONE IT AGAIN 🚀

Vlad Guerrero Jr also happens to be leading the Majors in RBIs (41), slugging percentage (.674) and total bases (116). He’s second in on-base percentage (.447) and his .337 batting average is 5th in the league.
Mad decent.
In the current era where everyone complains about hitters only striking out and baseball having no action and blah blah, Vlad Jr has a strikeout rate of 14% with a walk rate of 15%. His combination of power and plate discipline easily makes him the best hitter in the sport.
This is what his teammate, Lourdes Gurriel Jr, had to say about Vladdy’s current performance:
“His confidence is so high right now (at the plate) that we in the dugout, every time he goes to hit, we think he’s going to hit a homer,”
I feel the same way.
The Blue Jays currently sit one game above .500 and in 4th place of an AL East that Tampa Bay, Boston and New York are running away with.
But as I have written about Shohei Ohtani, individual excellence does not directly impact wins and losses as much as they do in other sports so let’s hope MVP voters don’t ignore Guerrero’s excellence because Toronto stinks.
It’s remarkable how he is able to excel while sharing the namesake of one of the greatest hitters we’ve ever seen. His father was an automatic home run every time he stepped into the batter’s box and Vlad Jr is becoming the exact same way.
Not only was Vlad Sr a monster with a bat in his hands but just like his son, both players started their careers playing in Canada. The pressure should be immense for Vladdy II but he remains unwavering. He’s far more focused on sending baseballs to the parking lot than like, his legacy or whatever.
It’s a shame his career is going to be wasted playing across the bad border in front of Fred VanVleet and the ghost of Jose Bautista’s bat flip.
Free Vladdy Jr.
Here’s some Vladimir Guerrero to cleanse your soul.
