At the end of February, Denver made one of the most underrated moves of the 2021-22 NBA Season: they signed Boogie Cousins for the remainder of the season. Fast forward a few weeks and let’s see what he did to the Houston Rockets:
- 31 points
- 24 minutes
- 10-for-14 shooting
- 3-for-4 from 3
- 9 rebounds
- 4 assists
- 3 steals
- 1 block
- +10 +/-
DeMarcus Cousins scored 31 points in 23:33 of action tonight, the fewest minutes played in a 30-point game in Nuggets NBA history.

Boogie Cousins was a one of a kind comet crashing into the NBA in 2010 and absolutely dominating opposing big men with aggressive physical play in the post and surprising touch shooting from the perimeter. He matched the skillsets of Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns but lapped them in his physicality and competitiveness.
Unfortunately, he was labeled a ‘bad guy’ by the media even though he put all the work into being the face of a Kings organization that traded him away during the All-Star break for no reason I can fathom outside of their pure hate of appearing relevant and/or competent.
Here’s a quick look at some of this villain’s acts of evil:
- He dressed as Santa Clause and took 100 kids on a shopping spree
- He donated his sneakers to be auctioned off for an epilepsy foundation
- He donated $1 million to local Sacramento charities moments after signing a contract extension to stay in the city
- He paid for the funeral costs of a local high school football player that was murdered
- He won the NBA cares award
But again, he’s a bad person because he doesn’t like referees or whatever.
Injuries robbed him of any and all opportunities to prove he is still one of the best big men in the NBA. The Golden State Warriors acquired Boogie Cousins and the world stopped. We were about to see a starting 5 consisting of 5 Hall of Famers anddd Cousins lower body exploded and since then, he’s bounced around showing up at the ends of seasons to fill out playoff teams’ rosters.
And now he’s found an oddly specific situation where a team is built around their star center so when Nikola Jokic isn’t on the floor, the team can plug Cousins in there and we see the results of this experiment:

Boogie is only 31 years old. No doubt in my mind there is more 30 point games left in his tank. His existence on the Nuggets could massively shift how this postseason ends.
The Denver Nuggets need to unleash Boogie Cousins.
