Today I Can Proudly Say I Have Never Watched The Blind Side

Every year around Oscar season, there is a universally beloved white savior movie that wins every award and gets praised for tackling the difficult issue of race by portraying a white person as the reason for a black person’s success.

From Dangerous Minds to The Green Book to The Help, there always has to be a movie about the one white person who sees the humanity in a brown person and pulls them out of poverty or whatever.

The Blind Side is one of the most egregious versions of this movie as Sandra Bullock portrays Leigh Anne Tuohy—a mediocre white lady who apparently found this 6-foot-4 300-pound black kid who she took in, raised as her own and gave him the opportunity to become the NFL offensive lineman he would later be.

Every few years, Michael Oher would pop up and tell you how bullshit the whole movie was and everyone ignored him because Sandra Bullock saved his life and taught him how to use a fork but now, Oher is realizing this family never actually adopted him and instead, forced him into a conservatorship like the one Britney Spears was trapped in her whole career.

“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the legal filing says. “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys.”

So essentially, the Tuohy family found a kid from a troubled background who was already being recruited by the top colleges in the country and pretended to adopt him into the family only to trick him into signing a conservatorship allowing the Tuohy’s to make a bajillion dollars off the story they created about adopting a black kid and giving him his first bed and turning him into an NFL player.

So not only did Oher find out the Tuohy’s became wealthy off his own life story while giving him exactly zero of those dollars but he also found out he was never actually a member of their family and was just a tool they used to change tax brackets.

And y’all rushed to the theatres to watch this nonsense. Could not be me.

You will never make me sit through a movie about a talented black person being ‘saved’ by a random white person who stood up against racism by giving the black person their first hot meal or whatever.

Fuck The Blind Side. Also Sandra Bullock isn’t that great of an actor but that’s a conversation for another day.
