Malachi Flynn scored 50 points last night, yo.
50 POINTS FOR @malachiflynn!
Career night for the Pistons guard as he goes 17-25 off the bench 🤯 pic.twitter.com/V2dQeNyrfD

Here’s what Flynn did in the Pistons 113-121 loss to the Hawks:
- 50 points
- 18-for-25 from the field (72%)
- 5-for-9 from 3
- 9 free throws
- 6 rebounds
- 5 assists
- 3 steals
- +14
There are more photos of Kate Middleton this year than there are of this guy wearing a Pistons jersey and he just scored 50 points off the bench. Flynn didn’t enter the game until 5 minutes left in the first quarter.
50 points.
Last week, the Pistons played the Wizards—the only franchise in worse shape than Detroit is.
Flynn scored 3 points.
I’m sure he’s a hometown legend now. Malachi joins fellow Washington native, Jamal Crawford, as the only player to score 50 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists off the bench. Whenever we think of the greatest Washington hoopers it always goes 2. Jamal Crawford and 1. Malachi Flynn. I’ve been saying this for years.
It’s even more impressive when you see he’s out there playing with James Wiseman and Evan Fournier. My guy was basically playing 3-on-5 most of his time on the floor and got his buckets regardless.
Flynn plays like my NBA 2K MyPlayer with speed, ballhandling and 3-point shooting turned all the way up. It’s like watching a basketball game at 1.5X speed when he has the ball in his hands. He even has a sweet little layup package.
And none of this matters because although Flynn has just proven he’s capable of scoring 50 points on any given night, he will never get another opportunity to do so.
Malachi Flynn was drafted 29th overall in 2020 by the Toronto Raptors right after Jaden McDaniels before Desmond Bane and while both of those guys have been given chances to prove they can be major contributors to winning, Flynn was sent to the G-League because Toronto already had Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr. and Norman Powell.
His career was over before it started. It’s nearly impossible for guys who start their careers in the G-League to end up as NBA starters.
It also doesn’t help that he’s barely 6 feet tall and whenever he’s on defense, he looks like a stressed-out CPA during tax season. Flynn looks like an SAT exam proctor. He looks like he lives on r/HipHopHeads.
The Detroit Pistons are his third team this season and knowing everything I know about the way Monty Williams runs this team, Flynn won’t get more than 20 minutes for the rest of the season because he like, didn’t box out in the 3rd quarter.
50 POINTS.
And it doesn’t matter.
At age 25, his NBA destiny has already been determined.
He’s going to bounce around the league, maybe have a solid 2-3 year run with an actual playoff team where he plays around 10 minutes a game while the important players get bathroom breaks and when it’s all over, Malachi Flynn will be a trivia answer and an Immaculate Grid guess.
Shit sucks.
