When the New York Giants hired new GM, Joe Schoen, there was a wave of hope across the tri-state area. Following Dave Gettleman’s 19-46 4-year record as the Giants GM, Schoen, or truly anyone, would’ve been a fantastic hire.
Until news dropped this week regarding Schoen’s desire to build around Daniel Jones.

Ideally, a new front office would step in, throw out Gettleman’s empty beer bottles and build a brand new roster from top to bottom because the Giants haven’t had a winning season in 6 years. Joe Schoen was hired to restore a burned-down building and his plan is to buy a new pack of matches to set down next to the old gas leak.
As the general manager, your job is not only to be the smartest guy in the room but to also convince the owner to agree to your smart ideas. It appears as though his hiring was contingent on allowing Giants owner, John Mara, to feel as though they are still this legacy football organization with universal clout and Daniel Jones deserves to be the face of this historic prestigious club.

Obviously, Daniel Jones hasn’t played in a perfect situation but very few quarterbacks are fortunate enough to have All-Pro receivers and Hall of Fame linemen protecting them. Sometimes, the quarterback has to create those stars. Joe Burrow has the entire opposing defensive line grabbing his jersey the second he drops back to pass and he’s still found himself in the AFC Championship game in his 2nd NFL season.
I like Daniel Jones and I think he’ll have a fantastic career as a backup somewhere else but to enter the 2022 NFL Draft with the no. 5 and no. 7 pick and leave the first round without a quarterback would be a massive mistake.
The New York Giants have already shut down Deshaun Watson trade talks which is good if you don’t want the team to give away those first-round draft picks and if you’re, ya know, against sex predators but bad if you don’t trust the Giants to use those draft picks wisely.
If the 2022 season starts with Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley back on new contracts then this team has decided they are no longer in the business of winning championships and we have to start digging into Mara’s financial books to see if they’re laundering money through this team.
