Robert Sarver and the Obsession With Saying the N-Word

robert sarver

Last week, ESPN broke a story on the Phoenix Suns front office, and more specifically, the behaviors of the team owner, Robert Sarver. Pretty much every single paragraph of that story includes an anecdote of Sarver saying or doing something abhorrent.

Here’s the first racist track on this terrible album:

After the loss, Suns majority owner Robert Sarver entered the coaches locker room, Watson told ESPN.

“You know, why does Draymond Green get to run up the court and say [N-word],” Sarver, who is white, allegedly said, repeating the N-word several times in a row.

“You can’t say that,” Watson, who is Black and Hispanic, told Sarver.

“Why?” Sarver replied. “Draymond Green says [N-word].”

“You can’t f—ing say that,” Watson said again.

White Robert Sarver tells then Suns head coach, Earl Watson, that he should be able to say the n-word because Draymond Green gets to do it and that’s not fair. There’s something enraging about hearing billionaires cry about ‘fairness’ knowing that in order for them to amass their exorbitant wealth, they had to screw over every single person they ever found themselves next to with one-sided deals or low-income wages of employees. Sarver’s entire goal is making sure life isn’t fair for anyone.

Here is more of Robert Sarver saying the n-word at work completely unprovoked:

At least a half-dozen Suns staffers recounted to ESPN instances of Sarver hearing a story from a Black player and then using the same language when retelling it, down to the usage of the N-word.

“You’re like, ‘Whoa! Robert, you can’t do that,'” said one former basketball executive. Another former Suns head coach said such instances were commonplace. A Black basketball operations staffer told ESPN he has heard Sarver say the N-word multiple times.

Sarver once used the N-word when trying to explain to a staffer why he preferred hiring Lindsey Hunter over Dan Majerle as head coach in 2013, according to a high-level executive who heard the remark. Hunter was a first-year Suns player development coordinator while Majerle was in his fifth year as a Suns associate head coach.

“These [N-words] need a [N-word],” Sarver told the staffer of his largely Black team, according to the executive.

These niggas need a nigga. Bars.

I wanted to avoid this story entirely because we get it. Racism = bad. You don’t need 500 words from me to remind you of this fact. There is no point in demanding Sarver sell the team. You are not punishing this man by forcing him to sell and make a quick billion dollars off the acquisition.

There is no cool billionaire.

There are only billionaires that keep their evil behind closed doors but you cannot usurp a majority of the Earth’s resources and be like, a kind caring person. Sure, I guess you can find a billionaire who makes people sign NDAs after they hear him say the n-word as opposed to proudly saying it to his employees. Dope.

Robert Sarver comes off as a rich white geek who is seeing the world change around him and noticing he is socially irrelevant. Nothing he cares about is ever trending news. His generation has zero clout these days.

This piece of shit fully knows why he can’t say the n-word but continues to whine about it because, for the first time in his life, there is a club he cannot pay his way into. Rap music is mainstream now. He hears it on a daily basis. And he doesn’t understand its popularity.

White people of a certain age are looking around and seeing what is hot in the streets these days and realizing that it’s no longer anything they can relate to. Their money can’t buy them social significance.

Oh, and they obviously do not respect the (brown) people who do have the social significance that they themselves lack.

Imagine being able to purchase anything you want any time you want it and your sad flaky-skinned face is crying because you can’t call Draymond Green a nigger without getting in trouble. That’s what these people are fighting so desperately for. Tax brakes and open racism.

Fuck Robert Sarver.

And we should probably talk more about the fact that Deandre Ayton has literally not played for the Phoenix Suns since rumors came out that Sarver called him a lazy nigger.

The only good news is this whole thing ensures Chris Paul never wins a title. You see that? That’s a half-full glass.
