A few weeks ago, Ime Udoka was suspended for a year following extremely vague reports surrounding his sex life with potential Boston Celtics employees. Everyone in the NBA media’s brains broke attempting to discuss this topic as all the information has still yet to be revealed but for some reason, ESPN’s Malika Andrews took a social media beating for her take on the matter.
We got the woman Stephen A. Smith y’all. Why bring up him getting arrested 13yrs ago? @malika_andrews 🤦♂️SMFH pic.twitter.com/yAfnzKuHyR

Joe Mazzulla was announced the new interim coach for the Boston Celtics and Malika Andrews used her platform to remind people that Mazzulla has a history of domestic violence against women. She was destroyed for bringing up a charge that occurred over a decade ago.
When your head coach is suspended for potentially being wildly inappropriate with women, it is absolutely worth noting that his replacement has been equally, if not more brutally, a threat to women. It looks gross as hell to say ‘our head coach has maybe been a real pervert around women so we will be hiring a man who hits women to help get this train back on the tracks’.
The discourse immediately shifted to how terrible Malika Andrews is at her job, how much she hates black men and how ESPN should’ve never fired Rachel Nichols.
People either have no memory or they jump on whatever the popular narrative is without taking a step back and thinking for a second about what they’re blindly latching onto. Probably a combination of both.
But let’s remember why Rachel Nichols was fired in the first place.
Last year, Rachel Nichols was promised, in her contract, to host the NBA Finals but after the vicious murder of George Floyd, brands put a major onus on highlighting more black faces in this super transparent attempt to appear progressive or on the right side of history. ESPN gave former host, Maria Taylor, the NBA Finals gig instead of Nichols which infuriated Nichols because she had the gig in writing.
Rachel Nichols’s private hotel convo with LeBron James’ publicist was leaked in which James’s PR guy said he was ‘exhausted’ from all the Black Lives Matters protests while Rachel laughed along. Essentially, Rachel claimed Maria took her job solely for optics.
Here is Rachel on the All The Smoke podcast telling her side of the story:

With the public turning on Malika, Rachel rushed to tell her side of the story after a year of radio silence. Everyone appears to be eating up her little sob story about having her private convos being recorded and how if she was a man, there would be no problem with her plotting her nasty career moves.
Rachel Nichols is full of shit but a lot of white people are without even knowing it. Everyone wants to be an ‘ally’ to brown people. They’re right there with black people demanding more diversity yet, they always seem caught totally off guard when those same black people take their jobs.
In order for there to be diversity and progress, black people need to take white people’s jobs. Interesting how suddenly Black Lives Matters is annoying once it comes to your front door and takes your NBA Finals job from you.
I don’t know whether Rachel Nichols or Maria Taylor or Malika Andrews deserve their jobs. They host boring ESPN NBA shows in which they are solely tasked with introducing topics. The stakes are remarkably low here.
But I can’t allow everyone to ride for Rachel Nichols as if she isn’t a lame-ass loser who pretends to care about black people until it’s time for real-life material change. Not just posting the right things on social media or wearing ‘BLM’ on your face mask but actual physical change. And when that actual material change occurred, Rachel and one of the most important PR dudes in sports started having private Game of Thrones-style meetings to usurp their power back.
It sucks that her privacy was invaded or whatever but she was not the only ESPN personality using that equipment and no one else had any leaks where they shit on their black co-workers for gaining opportunities they didn’t deserve.
Man, doesn’t it suck when someone gets a promotion solely based on their race or their relationships or circumstances that have nothing to do with the quality of their work? HM. You mean America isn’t a meritocracy?? Hm.
Oh and real quick, as far as the Malika Andrews hate goes: We all hate women so when they do or say something wrong or corny, they are the scum of the Earth who should be fired or thrown into a volcano but men say dumb nonsense on TV daily and they don’t trend on Twitter for two days as people line up with pitchforks.
