Let Coaches Hit Each Other

juwan howard

Soo the head coach of Michigan, Juwan Howard, may or may not have caused a brawl after attempting to murder a Wisconsin assistant coach.

I don’t have much to say about this but I run a sports website so I reckon there needs to be a few words when college basketball teams throw punches on the handshake line. Mostly fascinated by the reaction to this fight.

A majority of the tweets across my timeline consisted of people defending Juwan Howard against an imaginary wave of people calling for him to be fired. In a world where all of our hot takes are attached to our political affiliations and what sides of these bullshit culture wars we choose to take, I get the feeling people were expecting to see a lot of dog-whistling from conservatives calling for Howard to be fired while using some racist undertones but that outrage never actually happened and everyone just took the moral high ground against a backlash that never occurred.

Wisconsin head coach. Greg Gard called a timeout in the waning moments of a blowout win. This infuriated Juwan Howard enough to press the coaching staff on the handshake line. Clearly, Wisconsin assistant coach, Joe Krabbenhoft, is not only named Joe Krabbenhoft but he said something wild to Howard and Juwan tried to rip his face off his face. It happens.

Sportsmanship is overrated as hell. ‘Classiness’ is a manufactured temperament used to look down and shame anyone who expresses their emotions publicly and ya know, has brown skin.

Juwan Howard was for sure in the wrong. The reason Wisconsin had to call a timeout at the end of the game is because Michigan was running a fall court press despite being down a bajillion points with seconds left in the game. If he were fired then I’d understand. That being said, fuck sportsmanship. Let people be sore losers.

Coaches should be able to square up whenever they choose. Especially in college when you see Coach K’s geriatric ass on the other side of the scorer’s table just refreshing his bank account watching new dollars pour in from all his years every gathering the corniest swaggerless white dudes to beat brothers like Juwan Howard.

College basketball has become invisible. Coaches fighting is the only way to get more eyes on the product before the March Madness tournament.
