Sunday afternoon, Gerrit Cole takes the mound to help the good guys win the series in Diego. Fernando Tatis Jr, Jake Cronenworth, Manny Machado, back-to-back-to-back home runs, 1,2,3 to start the game—with new owner Kwanza Jones and her husband Jose Feliciano in the building.
Last month, Major League Baseball approved the sale of the San Diego Padres to Jose Feliciano’s ownership group. Previous owner Peter Siedel recently raised the stakes over there—jumping a payroll routinely at the bottom half of the league, up to 9th in 2021 and 5th in 2023 before his passing in November—leaving behind an expensive roster no closer to winning a championship—especially after the 2024 Juan Soto sale to the Yankees, a season ending with the Dodgers and Soto’s Yankees in the World Series.
Disgusting.
New owners Jose Feliciano and Kwanza Jones were live from Petco over the weekend—joined the booth on Sunday to share their excitement about reaching a brand-new level in the video game of Life. Impossible to stay calm after witnessing your first three batters jump Gerrit Cole.

For the second time in his career, Cole’s set up a ball on a tee for the first three batters he faced—making him the only pitcher in baseball history to have this happen twice.
The Padres went on to win 4-3, ending the weekend a half game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final wild card spot. Arizona doesn’t even know where their starting second baseman is most days and they’re still ahead of San Diego.

I have faith in the Padres push, especially after hearing Kwanza Jones at their introductory press conference.

I hope they do win win win. And they should be able to. Mark Walter is turning over cushions, looking for every penny to pay back the insurance premiums he stole to buy sports clubs. Dodgers have about a billion in deferred cash coming and an owner with like, $27 in his account right now. There might be 29 teams for a while, Mark Walter washing dishes in the back until he can afford his bill.

Plus, I’m tired of sports owners looking like James Dolan, Jerry Reinsdorf, Shrek. Kwanza Jones needs more screen time. No, I will not Google how she and her husband amassed this wealth. There’s a beautiful black woman named Kwanza who owns a baseball team. This is no time to depress myself with “facts” and “information”.
