Kenny Golladay Robbed The Giants

kenny golladay giants contract

Last season, the Giants decided to bring in a big-name receiver to help Daniel Jones progress to the next level and rightfully so. The Cowboys acquired Amari Cooper in 2019 and Dak Prescott had the best season of his career. The same thing happened for Josh Allen when the Bills traded for Stefon Diggs in 2020.

Every NFL organization should do everything in their power to get their young, developing QB a star wide receiver target to make everyone’s life easier.

So the Giants signed Kenny Golladay to a 4-year $72 million deal. Uh, safe to say, Golladay did not have the same effect as Amari Cooper or Stefon Diggs.

Let’s look at the wonderful and prolific 2021 season for Gollday:

  • 14 games
  • 76 targets
  • 37 receptions
  • 521 yards
  • 0 touchdowns

The man had 5 games where he had 2 or fewer catches. He was clocking in and immediately pretending to use the bathroom to kill time and play on his phone.

In Golladay’s defense, his entire year was full of injuries. He entered the season with a pulled hamstring and ended up hurting his hip and knee as the season went on.

Kenny Golladay was one of the top 10 highest-paid receivers and even with another offseason coming and going, he remains in the top 10.

Surely, Golladay must’ve licked his wounds, healed up and reflected on his struggles and busted his ass to prove he is deserving of that contract.

Here he is in the first preseason game against the New England Patriots showing his improvement and dedication to his craft:

Giants on the 25-yard line. Golladay gets his number called as Daniel Jones expects the 6-foot-4 receiver to get separation from his smaller, itty-bitty defender and snatch an easy touchdown.

Golladay proceeds to jog the entire route and gives up as the ball smacks the ground in front of him. This man cannot be on a professional football field making professional football dollars when he so clearly cannot play professional football.

That contract was a heist. And that doesn’t necessarily mean Golladay is a bad guy and I genuinely believe there is nothing he can do to live up to the money because he is physically incapable. He played in only 5 games for the Lions the year before the Giants threw all this cash at him.

There is no reason why the Giants gave a bag that large at ONE-TIME Pro Bowler, Kenny Golladay. Especially knowing the Giants have an offensive line that doesn’t allow their starting quarterback more than .02 seconds in the pocket before the entire defensive line is in the backfield wearing Daniel Jones’s bloody jersey around their helmets like war trophies.

Last season, Golladay was dead fucking last in getting separation from defenders according to NextGen stats.

How did Kenny Golladay even get this contract?

This contract was a robbery but a totally understandable one. A receiver recognized that his body had betrayed him. He knew his career was about to fall off a cliff and found the biggest mark in the league (Dave Gettleman) willing to hand him generational wealth in exchange for a solid 30 catches and 0 touchdowns a year.

As a Giants fan, all you can do is hope Kadarius Toney can stay healthy and perform well without turning into an emotional maniac because Golladay is only in the building to collect direct deposits and Darius Slayton will most likely be cut before Week 1.

Daniel Jones is about to have the worst year of his career—a career full of the worst years of his career.

Pray for Brian Daboll.
